|I Agree, he is much sillier now and the show is less approachable for someone just to pick up. I figure that once Smith gets some good episodes/experiences behind him he'll mature a little (and give us glimpses of the pain/loneliness which I liked about Tennant's Doctor).|
You know I've found lots of people who couldn't watch Tennant's Doctor tune back in for Matt for exactly the opposite reasons. They found the pain/loneliness too depressing to just pick up, and found it far easier to get to like a more fun character.
Me I liked 9 and 10, but they never really captured the essence of The Doctor. Every predecessor (bar perhaps 5) had an excess of character, a "larger than life" outlook, which neither 9 or 10 ever managed to develop. Originally when the show relaunched I just put it down to the new higher production values having to tone things down for it to work, but 11 has it in spades, it still works with the higher production values, and THE Doctor is back.
