    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (5)

      • Factual Error: The Doctor and the Master claim that in 10 billion years, the Sun will "burn through to its core and explode". Actually, the Sun will turn into a red giant in five billion years when it runs out of fuel, eventually becoming a white dwarf. This was known at the time of broadcast.

      • The TARDIS apparently returns to Earth a few seconds after it had departed because we see a reprise of the Brigadier ordering the Doctor to return at once. But this time, the Brigadier is standing in a different part of the room from where he had been the first time. Good thing, too, because if he hadn't relocated, the TARDIS would have landed on top of him!

      • The Master loses his laser gun before being taken into the alien city, but he has it again to threaten the Doctor and the Guardian with. This is often cited as a goof. However, if you watch closely, a primitive picks up the weapon outside the city and the Master takes it back after setting off the smoke bomb.

      • As the Doctor and his friends are trying to escape the crumbling city, both the Doctor and Caldwell push against a stone column that wobbles.

      • The radiation from the Doomsday weapon is supposed to have wiped out the alien race and be killing the Colonists' crops. Yet it has no affect whatsover on the colonists themselves, did not show up in either Ashe's or IMC's survey of the planet and does not show up on any of the TARDIS instruments when the Doctor checks to make sure the planet is safe!

    • QUOTES (1)

      • The Master: One must rule or serve. That is the basic law of life. Why do you hesitate? Surely it's not loyalty to the Time Lords, who exiled you to one insignificant planet?
The Doctor: You'll never understand. I want to see the universe, not to rule it.

    • NOTES (1)

      • The Master notes that the Crab nebula was the result of the Uxarians testing their super-weapon. The Crab nebula was a stellar explosion 6500 light years away, observed on Earth in 1054 AD. This would place the rise of the Uxarian civilization about 8000 years before the events of the story.
