Episode Recap

The Doctor and Emma run down a series of identical corridors. The Doctor sees a door, and thinks they will be safe inside. They open the door, and come face-to-face with a room full of Daleks…

The Doctor and Emma are tied back-to-back on a chair on the bridge of a Dalek ship. Daleks are busy operating the ship's consoles. Emma wonders why, given that exterminating the Doctor would be the sensible thing to do, the Daleks always changed their minds at the last moment. The Doctor offers to explain later.

The Master comes onto the bridge, appearing much younger than when last seen. He has been rejuvenated and enhanced with Dalek technology. He opens his jacket to reveal… Dalek bumps. The Doctor dismisses them as breasts, but the Master claims that the bumps can detect ion-charged emissions and operate as atheric beam locators at a distance of up to 20,000 light years. And they're very firm. Emma sniggers.

The Master explains that the Daleks are helping him in exchange for the secret of the Zectronic energy beam. The Doctor is distressed, as with this technology the Daleks will be able to conquer the entire universe in minutes. Emma wonders how they could achieve this with a beam. The Doctor offers to explain later.

The Black Dalek orders the Master to prepare to operate the Zectronic beam, and goes over to a console at the back of the bridge. The Doctor points out that the Daleks may conquer the universe but they will have to share it with the Master. The Black Dalek states that the Master will be exterminated when he has served his purpose.

The Doctor realises if the Master knew that the Daleks intend to kill him he might help. He and the Master speak perfect Terseran (communication by the breaking of wind). Emma balks at the prospect, and asks a Dalek to move her to another chair. A Dalek tells her to be quiet. She asks it why there are chairs on a Dalek spaceship. The Dalek offers to explain later.

The Doctor screws up his face in concentration, and passes wind. The Master sniffs the air. After a few mispronunciations (and confusion when Emma passes wind) the Master understands the Daleks' plan.

Belatedly, the Daleks realise that the Doctor and the Master are in communication. The Black Dalek accuses the Master of betraying them. The Daleks chorus: Exterminate! They shoot at the Master, but he dodges their blasts and they hit the Zectronic beam controller. The Doctor is hit by a Dalek blast and falls to the floor.

The Master shouts that the damaged Zectronic beam controller will implode, destroying them all. The Black Dalek orders him to effect repairs, but the Master says that only the Doctor can do this.

Emma crouches helplessly over the Doctor as he lays dying. The Master sniffs the air and tells Emma that the Doctor says he loves her. She rages that the Daleks have killed him. The Master tells Emma that this is only the Doctor's ninth body, and that he has many, many more.

The Doctor's face glows, and he begins to change…
