  • Bye bye Mel. I wish I could say you'd be missed...

    5.5
I can't say I'll really miss Mel. I'm glad she's gone, and what a story to depart in. This only just scraps past the 'average' mark, simply because it's the best story of this damn awful season 24. It's revealling when the best a show has to offer would now be considered the season's absolute turkey! Here we have a very clever story from future 'Fenric' scribe Ian Briggs, and although it's fun to watch, it does all appear like its falling apart at the seams at times. Sophie Aldred isn't at her acting best here, and the cliffhanger (literally) involving the Doctor and that bloody umbrella is just plain daft. It's as f the team had many ideas and didn't know what to do with them! So, from here on out, things can only get better. Surely?!?moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Equipment Visible: At the beginning of the last scene in the TARDIS, the power cord for the console is visible.

    • In the novelisation, after the little girl, Stellar, found her way into the 'forbidden zone' (Kane's private lair), and accidentally put her teddy into the cryogenic freezing bed, she went to take it out again, only to drop it on the floor where it promptly shattered. Also, Glitz found a nitro-laced stuffed dog in Ace's quarters, which he used to dispatch the remaining mercenaries.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Ace: I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with "M".
      (The Doctor arrives)
      Mel: Doctor!
Ace: That doesn't begin with "M".

    • Glitz: (on seeing the Dragonfire crystal) I'm beginning to feel a rather cosy, warm sensation in my money bag.
Ace: Lay one finger on the Dragon, bilgebag, and I'll rivet your kneecaps together!

    • Mel: I'll send you a postcard.
The Doctor: But I haven't got an address.
Mel: Oh, I'll put in a bottle and throw it into space! It'll reach you… in time.

    • Glitz: Well, we've officially named my new spacecraft "The Nosferatu 2". Just crack a bottle of ye olde carbonated fruit alcohol over the bows, and next stop: sunny Perivale, eh, sprog?
      Ace: Suppose so.
Mel: Have you got room for another one?
      Glitz: You? Perivale-bound as well?
Mel: Well, I was thinking of going a bit further.
      Glitz: How much further?
Mel: How much further are you going?
Glitz: Hang on half a millisecond!
The Doctor: Excellent! Mel can keep you out of trouble, Glitz.
Mel: And that means no more dodgy deals.
      Glitz: Thanks a million, Doctor!

    • The Doctor: Ace, where do you think you're going?
      Ace: Perivale.
The Doctor: Ah yes, but by which route? The direct route with Glitz? Or the scenic route? Well? Do you fancy a quick trip around the twelve galaxies and then back to Perivale in time for tea?
      Ace: Ace!
The Doctor [ sternly ]: But, there are three rules. One: I'm in charge.
      Ace: Whatever you say, Professor.
The Doctor: Two, I'm not the Professor, I'm the Doctor.
      Ace: Whatever you want.
The Doctor: And the third… [ smiles ] Well, I'll think up the third by the time we get back to Perivale.

    • The Doctor: (to a departing Mel) That's right, yes, you're going, you're gone for ages, already gone, you're still here, just arrived, haven't even met you yet. It all depends on who you are and how you look at it. Strange business, time.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Alien: This film and its sequel are heavily referenced in the appearance of the dragon, the motion-sensor guided hunt and the endangered blond girl.
