  • The Doctor and his rebel friend plan an escape from the Daleks while Jo and her invisible friend try their own plan.

Unfortunately the episode didn't quite pan as I hoped. The Daleks didn't have a lot to show here. The bit with the Doctor trying a jamming mechanism and placing it on the Dalek was too silly to take seriously.

There were a couple of good bits though, the doctor's line about abhorring violence yet feeling satisfied in stopping the Daleks was good. Their escape was typical of the Doctor-hide in a corner, then move behind the Dalek, This was an episode where a boost in the special effects would have helped tremendously. The part where the Doctor and Marat are on an elevator looks entirely fake!!!! You never see the camera move and up down which would made the scene a bit more realistic instead you just see the elevator's light's flash on and off.

The cliffhanger with the Doctor and his friends trying to float out of the ventilator shafts was allright though.moreless

    • Taron; Doctor, they're cutting through the door.
The Doctor: Well, it's pretty obvious they'd do something of the sort.
Taron: Well, what are we going to do?
The Doctor: Nothing. When faced with the inevitable, don't waste precious time resisting it.

  • NOTES (1)

    • The PAL color videotape master of Episode Three was wiped by the BBC in the mid 1970s. The episode master copy now exist only as a 16mm monochrome telerecording.

Syndicated episodic versions of the story feature all six episodes, including the black-and-white Episode Three. An omnibus format version, as syndicated in North America, omits Episode Three entirely. Episode Two is trimmed, and a good 7-8 minutes are cut from Episode Four to preserve the integrity of the plotline. However, it means that the Doctor suddenly goes from talking about how to escape from the Dalek city prison cell to roaming around Spiridon and accidentally bumping into Jo.

For the 2009 Dalek War DVD release, the Restoration Team re-colourized the episode using new computerized techniques.
