Sarah: “The landlord here’s got second sight!”

A very atmospheric, slightly chilling first episode of this Baker serial. The location filing is nice to look at, and the regulars have brilliant on-screen chemistry (Ian Marter is particularly good). Also, Nicholas Courtney is great as the Brigadier, and the Zygons are very effectively realised. The cliff-hanger is a good shock moment as well, as is Harry being shot in the head (something which you couldn’t imagine happening in any other Doctor adventures). However, the poor effects work (well, poor today anyway) on the Skarasen and the oil rig collapsing let down this otherwise flawless episode.
