The Android Invasion, Part One
AIRED:

England, the near future… perhaps. The TARDIS lands in the woods near Devesham Space Centre, and mysteries abound: soldiers rise from the grave, men lost in deep space are alive and well, and the entire population behaves very oddly indeed. What has happened to Earth — or is the true threat yet to come?

  • The Doctor and Sarah arrive on Earth but strange things are going on which lead them to believe an Invasion by aliens is happening.

    9.0
Great Doctor Who story. This one features Sarah Jane, the last appearence of Ian Marter as former companion Harry Sullivan, The Brigadier, and other characters in the series.

The story is about The Doctor and Sarah Jane coming back to Earth. However, the Earth isn't like what they remembered. The Doctor and Sarah are attacked by a couple of men (or aliens) in a spacesuit (ala Ambassadors of Death style). These guys have the ability to shoot out of their hands.

The Doctor and Sarah notice a couple of actual people in the area acting very peculiar. They find a large pod (similar to the ones in the movie Invasion of Body Snatchers).

In the episode, we meet an alien named Styggron who may have something to do with Invasion. The makeup effects done for the alien were superb for the time.

A lot of time and effort was put into his design. Sometimes the designs for Aliens in Who were average at best. However, this is not the case.

The episodes moves very quickly yet the writers do a great job of still keeping a lot of surprises secret.

The cliffhanger was cool. The Doctor gets captured. Sarah Jane tries to open the door for him then we get that creepy closeup of Styggron looking down at her!!! Nicely done.

The episodes get better than this two. The special effects are still primitives but overall, the costumes, the makeup effects, and action do a decent job of selling this out of this world story.moreless
