    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (6)

      • Factual Error: The Doctor claims that the heat waves and cold frosts are from mass being created or destroyed when the Daemon changes size. While the scientific principle is accurate, the scale is not. Destroying even a gram of matter would release 20 kilotonnes of energy, nearly twice the energy of the Hiroshima bomb and more than enough to completely vaporize the village.

      • Continuity: The Doctor initially pronounces "Daemons" as "day-mons". For the rest of the serial, they are called "demons".

      • Continuity: The Brigadier says the energy barrier is ten miles wide. But in the previous episode, the milk van was destroyed near a sign reading, "Devil's End 1".

      • The cliff-hanger for this episode is odd since it is neither the Doctor nor one of his companions who are in danger. It is the threat to the Doctor's enemy, the Master, that elicits the cliff-hanger.

      • The script used the words from the nursery rhyme "Mary had a little lamb" written backwards as part of the Master's diabolic incantation.

      • The Brigadier's exploding helicopter is once again stock footage from the Bond film From Russia with Love.

    • QUOTES (3)

      • Mike Yates: I see. So all we've got to deal with is something which is either too small to see or thirty feet tall, can incinerate you or freeze you to death, turn stone images into homicidal monsters and looks like the devil.

      • Jo [ on repelling Bok ]: How did you do that?
The Doctor: Iron. It's an old magical defence.
Jo: But you don't believe in magic.
The Doctor: I don't, but he did, luckily.
Jo: Was that a… spell you said?
The Doctor: No. The first line of an old venusian lullaby, in fact. Roughly translated, it goes "Close your eyes, my darling. Well, three of them at least."

      • Doctor: Now, come on, Jo! E equals M C squared.
        Jo: You're the Doctor.
