    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • The most expensive story of the original series, mainly due to the Matrix sequence where the Doctor is attacked by a genuine bi-plane.

    • QUOTES (2)

    • NOTES (3)

      • The freeze-frame shot of the Doctor's head underwater (which was the main point of contention for various protest groups) was excised when the episode was repeated. It was later restored to the BBC video release working from an American copy of the episode.

      • The bi-plane used for the scenes in the Matrix is G-AWXZ, a converted 1946 Stampe which has appeared in films such as Aces High, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Mummy.

      • The perceived violence of the death struggle between Goth and the Doctor at the episode's climax ultimately led to the removal of producer Phillip Hinchcliffe and a new, more comedic direction for the series.
