    • TRIVIA (5)

      • Revealing Mistake: When the ladder in the sewer pulls away with Susan on it, her weight makes the "concrete" walls wobble.

      • Revealing Mistake: When David is examining the bomb, Susan walks past him, causing the stone post nearby to tip back and forth.

      • Following an accident during filming of the previous episode, it was agreed that William Hartnell be given paid leave for the filming of this one. Minimal re-writes were required, as the Doctor barely featured anyway. Edmund Warwick body-doubled for the Doctor.

      • In Terry Nation's first draft, while hiding in the sewers David tells Susan rumours that some humans fled into the sewers to escape the ones who carried the plague and are still down there but are no longer people. They have adapted to living in constant darkness and are now primitive savages who feed on any one or any thing they come across. David and Susan are captured by three of the savages and are about to be killed when Tyler, who is also hiding down in the sewers, comes to their rescue.

      • The Daleks are supposed to be mining Earth for its magnetic core and it is stated that Earth is unique in this regard. In fact, every planet in the solar system has a magnetic core.

      • The "alligator in the sewer" sequence here may be a take on the urban legend of pet alligators being flushed down into the sewer and growing to massive sizes.
