    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Other Mistake: Toward the end, the Doctor tells Seth to get the others out of the larder. Seth comments that they are dead and the Doctor replies they are merely paralyzed. In the background, however, one of the Anethians moves within his container.

      • Soldeed's body disappears from where it falls.

    • QUOTES (4)

      • Nimon: Later, you will be questioned, tortured, and killed.
The Doctor: Well, I hope you get them in the right order.

      • The Doctor: Poor old Seth.
        Romana: Poor old Seth?
The Doctor: Yes. Well, just imagine the legends Teka is going to build up around him. He'll have to spend the rest of his life trying to live up to them. It's terrible.
Romana: I suppose that's how legends are made.
The Doctor: Yes. I'm glad this time I reminded them to paint their ship white. The last time anything like this happened, I completely forgot. Caused quite a hoo-hah.
Romana: What are you talking about?
The Doctor: Hmm? Oh. Other times. Other places.

      • Soldeed: You have brought this calamity upon me.
Romana: You brought in on yourself!

      • (The Doctor is repairing the TARDIS.)
The Doctor: Well come on, old girl, there's quite a few millennia left in you, yet.
        Romana: Thank you, Doctor.
The Doctor: Not you… the TARDIS.
(Romana pulls a face behind the Doctor's back.)

    • NOTES (0)

    • ALLUSIONS (3)

      • Moses: The former leader of Corinth is named after the biblical figure. There are also references to plagues of locusts and a great migration.

      • Jason and the Argonauts: Yet another classical reference is the name of the crystal - Jasonite - that Sozem uses to increase the power of his staff.

      • At the end of the episode the Doctor boasts that this time he got the returning heroes in the right colour ship. This refers back to the original legend of Theseus and the Minotaur. In that story before Theseus sails off to face the monster, his father instructs him to tell the sailors to return with white sails if Theseus survives the adventure, black if he dies. Unfortunately the instruction is forgotten and when the victorious ship returns with the wrong colour sails, Theseus' fathers tragically kills himself by leaping from the cliffs into the sea. Interestingly, the off-handed comment by the Doctor indicates that he was a participant in the original event. This was also hinted at by the giant ball of twine Romana finds in The Creature From the Pit.
