FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Romana: Doctor.
      The Doctor: Um.
Romana: Sometimes I don't think you're quite right in the head.

    • Romana: How long am I going to be tied up here?
      Rohm-Dutt: Well, that depends.
      Romana: On what?
Rohm-Dutt: On whether you cooperate. If you don't, you'll rot there. Won't take long in this climate.
Romana: And that doesn't bother you?
      Rohm-Dutt: Young woman, I'm indifferent.
Romana: Emotional insulation is usually indicative of psychofugal trauma.
      Rohm-Dutt: I didn't know that.

    • Rohm-Dutt: What were you doing in the swamp?
      Romana: Catching butterflies.
      Rohm-Dutt: Oh, I like a joke.
Romana: I'll try to think of one.

    • Thawn: Are you claiming you're from outside this constellation?
      The Doctor: Yes.
Thawn: And how did you get here?
The Doctor: I have my own transport.
      Harg: He is crazy.
The Doctor: Will you stop saying that? What gives him an insight into my mental processes?

    • The Doctor: Progress is a very flexible word. It can mean just about anything you want it to mean.

  • NOTES (6)

    • DVD: Doctor Who: The Power of Kroll released in U.S.A./Canada (Warner Home Video E1692) in September 2002. Released as part of the Doctor Who: The Key to Time box set (BBCDVD 2335) (limited edition) in September 2007 and re-released (BBCDVD 2754) in November 2009.

Video: Doctor Who: The Power of Kroll (BBCV 5612) released in June 1995. Released in U.S.A./Canada (Warner Home Video E1337) in September 1996.

    • Novelisation: Doctor Who and the Power of Kroll by Terrance Dicks (ISBN 0 426 20101 9) first published by W H Allen in 1980.

    • The tune the Doctor plays on his reed flute is Badinere, Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor by J.S. Bach.

    • Filming locations include The Maltings, Snape, Suffolk (TARDIS materialization and subsequent outdoor scenes) and Iken Cliff, Suffolk (night filming of the Swampie sacrificial ritual).

    • Robert Holmes' brief when given this script assignment was to include the biggest monster ever seen in the series. His initial reaction was "Uh oh, we're in trouble here," and the actual realisation of Kroll would tend to support this response.

    • K-9 was unable to participate in the story due to the swampy terrain, so John Leeson, who was under contract to appear anyway, played refinery worker Dugeen instead.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • The Doctor: Will there be strawberry jam for tea?
The line is from "The Lumber Room" by Saki, published in Beasts and Super-Beasts (1914).
