    • TRIVIA (3)

      • Revealing Mistakes: The metal pipe that Harg is dragged into is cardboard. Apart from the obvious cross-section, it wobbles quite a bit as Harg kicks it.

      • Revealing Mistakes: The footage of Harg being dragged into the pipe is reversed: watch for steam flowing backwards into the pipe.

      • Continuity: The swampy playing Kroll seems to magically lose the remainder of his elaborate Kroll outfit between the time the Doctor knocks him out and when he throws the knife at Romana.

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Romana: Well, there's no reason to be smug about it.
        The Doctor: I'm not smug.
Romana: I can tell that expression, even from behind.

      • Romana: Ooh, a sort of holy writ.
The Doctor: It's atrociously writ. But the pictures aren't bad, look.

      • Thawn: I'm not interested in its feeding habits, Fenner, unless they happen to include us!

      • Romana: I didn't like the bit about death according to one of the seven holy rituals.
The Doctor: Probably the usual things. Fire, water, hanging upside down over a pit of vipers.
        Romana: That's only three.

      • The Doctor: I know a rogue when I see a rogue, and I've no desire to die in the company of a rogue. Do you have any desire to die in the company of a rogue?
Romana: I'd rather not die at all.
The Doctor: I know that feeling.

      • Ranquin: The Great One condemns the prisoners to die by the Seventh Holy Ritual of the Old Book.
The Doctor: Seven. My lucky number!

      • (The Doctor and Romana are talking as the Chief of the Swamp People and his guards approach.)
        Romana: Doctor…
        The Doctor: What?
        Romana: We've got company.
The Doctor: Well, you'd better introduce me.
        Romana: As what?
The Doctor: Oh, I don't know… A wise and wonderful person who wants to help. Don't exaggerate.
        Romana: (ahem) This is the—
        Ranquin: Seize them!
The Doctor: I told you not to exaggerate.

    • NOTES (1)

      • The refinery is extracting vast quantities of methane from the swamp, which are euphemistically described as being a product of Kroll's digestive process. This was the only story significantly revolving around flatulence until season 27's Aliens of London.
