The Robots of Death, Part Three

Aired Saturday 5:15 PM Feb 12, 1977 on BBC

  • Trivia

    • Visible Crew: When Toos is talking about the disposal of robots, a crewman can be seen towards the back of the set.

    • Continuity: When the robot attacks Toos, she closes the door on his hand, trapping his hand at the wrist with the sleeve pinched against it. Reverse shot and the sleeve is free of the wrist, allowing the robot to conveniently detach the hand.

    • Revealing Mistake: After SV7 leaves Toos' quarter, we see Leela banging on the door of the lounge. Just after the scene starts, the gold statue in the foreground lights up as thought the lighting cue came in a bit late.

    • Revealing Mistake: When the voc robot is being modified and its hands are twitching, it is possible to see the dishwashing glove manufacturer's logo on its silver hands.

  • Quotes

    • V.16: All motive units shutting down. All readings falling to safety.
The Doctor: Oh, good. Now our troubles really begin.

    • Leela: My tribe has a saying. "If you're bleeding, look for a man with scars.

    • D.84: I have failed.
The Doctor: Yes… Oh, come on. Don't be upset. Yes you've failed, you've failed, but failure is one of the basic freedoms.

    • D84: It is a Laserson probe. It can punch a fist-sized hole through six-inch armour plate, or take the crystals from a snowflake one by one.

  • Allusions

    • Taren Capel
The name "Capel" is an allusion to Karel Capek, the writer of the play R.U.R. and the originator of the word "robot."
