    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Factual Error: The Doctor mentions that he shared a fish caught in the Fleet with the Venerable Bede. But Bede spent his entire life in Jarrow, far removed from London. On the other hand, the Doctor could be putting Litefoot on.

      • You can see a newspaper with a 1970s headline in Litefoot's laundry basket.

    • QUOTES (5)

      • The Doctor: Where's Litefoot?
Leela: He went out. He said he'd seen a Chinaman outside the window.
The Doctor: And you jumped through it?
        Leela: Something like that.

      • The Doctor: He's a blackguard!
        Litefoot: Who?
The Doctor: I don't know who's the blackguard, but if some slavering vampire comes out of the sewers stalks this city at night, he's a blackguard!

      • Litefoot: The sheer criminal effrontery. Things are coming to a pretty pass when ruffians will attack a man in his own home.
The Doctor: Well, they were Chinese ruffians.

      • Litefoot: Haven't you slept?
The Doctor: Sleep is for tortoises.

      • Litefoot: I think this entire enterprise is rash and ill-considered.
The Doctor: My dear Litefoot, I've got a lantern, a pair of waders, and possibly the most fearsome piece of hand artillery in all England. What could possibly go wrong?
Litefoot: Well, that for a start. It hasn't been fired for 50 years. If you try to use it it'll probably explode in your face.
The Doctor: Explode? Unthinkable – it was made in Birmingham!

    • NOTES (2)

      • The Doctor can be heard whistling "Colonel Bogey's March", by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts, as he strolls up to the doorway before Chang shoots at him.

      • By a strange coincidence, the sequence in which Leela is pursued by the giant rat, only to be saved by the Doctor and a very big gun, was replicated in almost every key detail in the New Avengers episode Gnaws, broadcast during this season. (In the other show, Gambit saves Purdey from the rat.)
