The Three Doctors, Episode Three

Aired Saturday 5:15 PM Jan 13, 1973 on BBC

  • Trivia

    • Plot Hole: The Chancellor tells the First Doctor that "all three are needed to defeat Omega". But how does he know who the enemy is?

    • Revealing Mistake: Although it is later revealed that Omega has no physical shape, the actor's mouth can be seen on several occasions, notably when he is working out who the second Doctor is.

    • Revealing Mistake: When the second Doctor, the Brigadier and Benton arrive on Omega's world, there is a long shot that shows the TARDIS doors open to the empty police box interior. In fact, the secret door at the back that allows the crowd of characters to pile in later in the serial is easily visible.

  • Quotes

    • Third Doctor [ regarding Omega ]: I tell you, I practically had him won over, and then you turned up, and he started treating me like an impostor!
Second Doctor: Well, you are really, aren't you?
Third Doctor: What do you mean?
Second Doctor: Well, I suppose in another way, we both are. Or is it neither of us?

    • Brigadier: Did you find a way in?
      Ollis: No. You?
Brigadier: No. There's only one thing for it.
      Ollis: Huh?
Brigadier: Wait until the door opens, then take it by storm: A full-scale frontal attack using all the resources available.
      Ollis: What does that mean?
Brigadier: Mr. Ollis, that means you and me.

    • Third Doctor: Omega, if you would undo the harm that you've done, and resume your place in the high council, you could have the freedom to do whatever you wish.
Omega: Power is the only freedom I seek. Absolute power is absolute freedom.

    • Third Doctor: How did you manage to survive?
Omega: How does anyone survive? Force of will. Mind, you might say, over anti-matter.

    • (UNIT HQ has been transported to another universe.)
The Brigadier: Now see here, Doctor, you have finally gone too far.
The Doctor: I rather think we all have. What's it like out there?
The Brigadier: There's… well, there's sand everywhere!
The Doctor: Oh, splendid! Who's for a swim?

    • The Doctor: All my life I've known of you and honoured you as our greatest hero.
Omega: A hero? I should have been a god!
