    The show received dismal ratings and mediocre reviews. And I suspect the DVD sales weren't nearly as good as Joss' previous work. So, really, it wasn't making any money.

    After just recently watching season 2, i got the feelling that after shooting the 2nd last episode they pretty much said... "yeah, you can probably wrap this up now. in one episode." Which is disappointing I think because they build up to a potential 3rd, even 4th season but they cut it short. I personally found the first season rather annoying by the end but I stuck with season 2 and despite the abrupt ending, i found it very enjoyable. you should watch it.

    I think they had more than just two episodes left to film when the show was canceled. They had time (not much I'll add) to sort of wrap stuff up within the last half of the season or so.

    The problem was the first 5 episodes of season 1. They lost many viewers there.

    They really did. They were all stand alone and were seriously lacking that Whedon spark of mythology/Arc

    I think if they had done a better arch for the first 5 episodes, and then stand alones later they might have gotten more views and better reviews. IMO the stand alones were entertaining but only when you got into the show and were actually interested.

    Bad ratings. Stupid network. A hate of anything new and exciting by the general public. A preference for reality TV over quality. The curse of the Dushku. Too many pretty faces. And a fear of the unknown.

    Thanks. I rather feel particularly cheated on this one cause I actually found it very intriguing. I would have loved Firefly to continue as well, but I didn't get into that until it hit DVD, so I wasn't as invested in it. The canceling of Dollhouse provokes intense feelings of anger and disappointment.

    i was with every episode as it came out. i would wait all week... well obviously. it started really slowly, in classic joss style.
    i would have bailed aswell if not for the outstanding acting, and character construction.
    when i heard it had a five year plan is when i got really invested. this is going to be something spectacular.

    but people are impatient, need to know what's going on. also consider this;

    you only see the main character in flash backs. how did they think this would fly?

    Well Caroline was slowly coming to the front and Echo was more the main character than her anyway.

    i'm just saying, there was nothing to latch onto, for the audience i mean.
    and that was part of the appeal but also, i'm sure people could have been put off by that aswell.
    everything was uncertain.

    That's a good point. There really wasn't a solid character to relate to since they played different people every episode. But I think it really opened up the show to a wide variety of plots.

    Yup. I think the show really could have been amazing. I kinda hope it gets a good movie deal like Firefly did. If wishes were horses....
