Curse Of The Dushku?

    This is the second show Eliza Dushku has been the main star of (the first being the fantastic Tru Calling), and both shows have ended after a two season, 26 episode run. Thoughts?

    I think it's crazy. Especially since I've watched them both.

    Definitely a FOX thing. I mean, look at Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles, Firefly, Space Above and Beyond (i'm always gonna blame them on that one), Stargate SG-1. All great shows that should have stayed on longer. SG1 went on to SciFi and they did great. What's so great about Friday night that they're asking ratings on par with primetimes shows that're on M-Th.

    I completely disagree with the `Dushku Curse`, but fully agree with the `Fox Curse`. It seems that whenever Fox has a really amazing show on their hands, they `can it` because it doesn`t catch on and become an instant television phenomena right away. Meanwhile, they leave fans wishing for more of these awesome shows and then kick them in the nuts.

    The only thing I will commend Fox for is bringing the show to us to begin with, and at least letting them try to finish the series, even though its obvious that they`re cramming about 3-4 seasons into 10 episodes.

    I really hope that at some point they learn.

    She is like better than 50% of people who call themselves an ''actress'' these days. She's hot and she can kick serious ass. It was FOX and Friday nights. Never again.

    I don't think the list of failures are Eliza's fault at all. Timeslots, lack of advertising, bad scripts, weird storylines and some dull characters all add up to cancellation. Networks are in it to make money,nothing more and nothing less. If they want a show to succeed, then screening it on a Friday night when it is meant to appeal to a fairly young audience is ridiculous. If they don't get the ratings, they don't get the revenue from advertisers but I don't think the actors can be held accountable for that.

    Terminator pulled a bait and switch on their viewers. They lured in a bunch of action fans and gave them a scifi show, it was bound to fail. S:AAB is an obscure complaint. SG-1 was never a Fox show, you're thinking of Showtime. Firefly is the obvious comparison, but that one gets mentioned in every post. Fox is no different than any of the other networks.

    Family Guy has been included as part of the Fox Curse. They even said it themselves when the show was renewed. I forget the long list of shows that were created and cancelled between Family Guy getting cancelled and renewed.

    Since Eliza was bound by a two year contract with FOX, she (and Joss) really had no choice where Dollhouse would reside. They knew (somewhat) what they were getting themselves into. I think they should have waited until Eliza's contract was up, but that's just me.

    Also only 2 failed TV shows doesn't really constitute a curse. And if we're being technical, this was Eliza's 3rd "failed" show since her pilot "Nurses" wasn't picked up (you can find/watch it on Youtube).

    Tru Calling i really don't see why it got canned, but in all fairness (i really loved the other shows made by joss) deserved to be canned. A very few good episodes here and there wasn't worth it. I'm talking mainly about the storyline

    Both shows were great, I enjoyed every episodes of both.


    Whedon's style apparently doesn't bring in as many people as buffy used to.

    because you can just find everything no the internet nowadays nobody bothers to watch the show, hence low ratings, hence stupid network worrying about their precious profits, hence **** TV. hence American Idol & You think you can dance getting renewed.

    Well since Zach Galifinakis (Davis) and Matt Bomer (Luke) both from Tru Calling are doing pretty well right now (The Hangover fame and White Collar, respectively), it's safe to say Eliza might not be doing something right. But at least now she's helped launch Enver's career as well!
