EDITDong Yi is a historical epic TV series produced by Lee Byung Hoon that is set during the reign of King Sukjon in the Joseon dynasty as it follows the journey of Dong Yi (Han Hyo Joo), a water maid in the palace, as she becomes the king’s concubine. When the Queen Inhyeon (Park Ha Sun) seems to have weak abilities to bear a royal heir, Dong Yi takes a risk by passionately praying for her Queen’s health. King Sukjon (Ji Jin Hee), awed by her loyalty to his wife, takes Dong Yi as a concubine in the hopes she would bear a son when the queen could not. Based on the true story of the concubine who bore the 21st king of the Korean Joseon Dynasty, Dong Yi is a beautiful retelling of an integral period of Korean history.
