Doogie Howser, M.D.

Season 3 Episode 8

Aired Wednesday 9:00 PM Nov 20, 1991 on ABC

  • Trivia

    • This episode "completes" in the episode "Doogiesomething" (season 3, episode 10), when Doogie tells Wanda about his aborted attempt to come to Chicago for her birthday. We finally get to hear what happened after the episode ended.

    • The time allowed by the writers for Doogie and Vinnie to arrive in Chicago the next day at 8 AM is not realistic. Chicago and Pacific Palisades, CA (from Lonesome Doog episode) are 2,152 mile using I-40E and 2,037 miles using I-80E. At legal speed limits the time necessary to travel the distance is 1 day 8 hours to 1 day 10 hours. The story takes place the day before Wanda's birthday, which is when Doogie wants to arrive. Even without the car troubles, Doogie couldn't arrive at the stated time in the episode.

  • Quotes

    • Shannon: Isn't it amazing? There didn't have to be a universe at all. And even if there did have to be a universe, it didn't have to be so beautiful. But it is. So beautiful. Doogie turns looking at Shannon. And here. In all of outer space, with all the places that the Sun and the Earth and the Moon could be. They're right here. In perfect alignment. Isn't it a miracle? Shannon turns her head towards Doogie returning his gaze. Doogie and Shannon lean forward and kiss.
Doogie: But it can't last. Just tonight.
Shannon: Yeah. But maybe it's enough that it happens at all. One bright shining moment.
Doogie: And the really miraculous thing is... it'll happen again and again and again. Doogie and Shannon lean forward again and kiss, yet again.

    • Personal journal of Doogie Howser, M.D.: NOVEMBER 15, 1991… The Greeks thought looking at the moon would make you crazy. I looked at the moon with Shannon and came to my senses.
