They had all the makings of a great episode here. It could have been a powerful and moving episode.

What it was, instead, was a cliched, lukewarm and sometimes boring episode.

When Raymond is ranting about all his woes of being 'black' heseems more like a kid who has been denied candy then somebody who has been wronged. There is no feeling to his words. He started making himself look like a fool when he asked to be called 'Z-Man' by the police and made the typical cliched demands of a car, money and a helicopter. It got even worse when he goes on saying things like 'making my homeboys proud of me.'

His character is loud and over the top. I frankly thought that the director didn't know whether to make this a serious episode or a comedy and in the end ended up doing neither.moreless

    • Valerie Simpson (from TV set): Unconfirmed sources have told us that the suspects name is Raymond Alexander, age sixteen, from Compton. His hostages are two Brentwood teenagers, Douglas Howser and Vincent Delflorio.
Vinnie (in frustration): Delflorio? Delflorio! I can't believe this. I even spelled it for them.

    • Valerie Simpson (from TV set): Again, the standoff here in a West Los Angeles convenience store heads into its third hour. At this time police are still withholding the names of both the gunman and his hostages.
Vinnie and Raymond (exclaiming together): What?
Vinnie (in disgust): Withholding our names?
Raymond: Man, I don't believe this! They're messing with my air time.

    • Vinnie: So pretty nice setup, huh? You got your TV, your stereo system, your junk food and every dirty magazine a guy could wish for.

Doogie: Wow... thats kinda like how we pictured heaven, huh Vin?

    • Doogie's Journal Entry: March 3, 1990... I never tought of myself as prejudiced against black people... but after last night, I think I might have to rethink what I thought.
