AIRED:

In this full-length feature film, Doug and Skeeter finally discover the monster of Lucky Duck Lake, and it turns out that he's actually really nice. Doug and Skeeter name him Herman Melville after he tries eating a copy of "Moby Dick". After only showing Herman to the Dink's, Mrs. Dink realizes that Herman came out of the lake because Bluffco has been polluting it for years. Although Doug and Skeeter try to keep Herman a secret, Guy finds out about him and tells Bill Bluff. Once Bill knows, he attempts to cover the whole thing up by capturing Herman. One night, Skeeter and Doug try to let Herman free but Bill and his men capture Herman. So Doug and Skeeter, along with the Sleech twins, work together toplan Herman's escape.

When Roger and his gang see the monster come out of the lake, they realize that Skeeter now has a monster on his side. So Roger comes up with a plan to have a "monster" of his own on his side.

Plus, Doug wants to take Patti to the school's upcoming Valentine's Day dance which is taking place at Funkytown, but he has to compete with Guy who is on the dance planning committee with Patti, and also wants to take her to the dance.

    • TRIVIA (1)

    • QUOTES (6)

      • RoboCrusher: Roger, Roger, you forgot your jacket.

      • Roger: Well, it's about time! O.K. let's see it!
        Al: May we present...
        Nerds: RoboCrusher!
(RoboCrusher comes in and we see that it is smaller than Roger.)
Roger: You lame brains! It's dinky. Didn't you look at my plan? It's supposed to be this big compared to me!
Elmo: Exactly! (he takes out a ray gun and shoots a laser beam at Roger which shrinks him)
Roger: You dip sticks, this is wrong! Change me back, change me back now!

      • Doug: Defeating a monster is much cooler than over seeing a dance, no matter how bad we smell!

      • Narrator: How can the beast be stopped? Surely Quailman must come to fisticuffs with this fiend from the fathoms!
Quailman: No, Mr. Narrator. Violence is only for those who have run out of good ideas.

      • Narrator: Doug imagines himself a superhero daring enough to wear his underwear over his pants, Quailman!
Quailman: A big dance extravaganza, well that does sound big! I wonder if it's a trap? (reads) "P.S. Not a trap."

      • Ned: Oh man!
        Boomer: I'm freezing!
Willy: Say Rog, do you really think this is such a g-g-g-good day to go f-f-f-f-f-fishing?
Roger: Maybe you guys would rather go home and cut Valentines out of construction paper and
        doilies?
        Boomer: Well yeah!
        Ned: Sounds enjoyable Rog!
        Willy: I'll make hot chocolate!

    • NOTES (9)

      • The movie was originally planned as a direct-to-video release and the working title was "The First Doug Movie Ever". On January 14, 1999, Disney released a press release which officially announced Doug's 1st Movie opening in theaters.

      • In October 1998, the first trailer for the movie was included on North American VHS copies of "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride". It advertised the movie as only available on video with the title "The First Doug Movie Ever". In this trailer, a scene where a close up shot of a picture of Patti is on Doug's corkboard. Doug then touches the picture and it zooms out to show Doug and Skeeter sad and Skeeter comforting Doug. This is a deleted scene and is not in the movie.

      • In the U.S.A., the movie opened in 2,268 theaters and grossed a total of $19,421,271 over a span of five months. It cost five million dollars to make the movie.

      • The movie was never released on DVD, but in North America the movie was released on video on September 21, 1999. To celebrate the release of the movie on video, a set of 8 Doug toys were available and included in McDonald's Happy Meals between September 17 to October 14, 1999.

      • As Doug's 1st Movie was originally slated to a direct-to-video release, Post Cereals ran a special promotion centered around Doug in March and April 1999. It included a contest where winners received the video "The First Doug Movie Ever", that video ended up being the movie released in theaters!

      • In the movie, Doug reveals he has lived at 21 Jumbo Street for a year and a half.

      • If you pay close attention to the details, you'll see that the movie takes place over a period of 4 days and 5 nights (February 11 to February 15).

      • Roger says "It's gonna be the biggest thing to ever hit this town.", to which his gang replies "Again?", the gang is referring to when Roger said that in episode 80 "Doug's Friend's Friend".

      • The movie spoofs a scene from "Lord of the Dance" (a 1997 movie) and makes references to "King Kong", "Bambi Meets Godzilla" (from 1969) and "The Silence of the Lambs" (from 1991).
