    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • When Doug enters the classroom late in his costume, the teacher is explaining about Primary Variables. She says that, "If A is equal to 1, and B is represented by all the numbers known in the world, then C = some number." Not only is there no such thing in Math called Primary Variables, but there is no stated principle, theorem, theory or anything math based that mentions this! Just another little joke added in for the more adult viewers.

      • When Doug is running to Porkchop's doghouse, he steps on a bush. It appears that the bush is flat, although this is simply because the animators didn't arrange the animation correctly.

    • QUOTES (13)

      • Doug: (To Dale) Whatever happened to "Big Nose"?
(Dale bites Doug on the nose)

      • Doug: (thinking to himself) Let's see. If A equals how big my nose is now and B is the rate it grows per year, then by the time I finish college.
(flash forward to college graduation, Doug's nose is taking up his whole face)
Skeeter: Whoa, a nose with a college degree. Cool man.

      • Roger: Deserted by your own dog? What a loser!

      • Mr. Dink: Like I always say: "If you go with the flow, you'll always come out in the washer!"

      • Day-Care Teacher: Your brother said the word "cool" ten times today. And he said the word "man" six times.
        Skeeter: Cool, man!

      • Dale: Hiya, big nose! Big nose, big nose!
Roger: Smart little brother, you got there. Isn't that right, Mr. Schnoz?!

      • Roger: I have an idea for you. Why don't you get two pictures taken: one for you, and one for that nose of yours!

      • Patti: Your nose poked my eye out, Doug! Call an ambulance! Help! Ow!

      • Skeeter: Hey, Doug. I just had my picture taken. And you know what's really cool? I can still see the little spots under my eyes. I'm gonna miss 'em when their gone.

      • Bebe: So, Patti, how do you think your picture came out?
        Patti: Who knows?
Doug: "Knows," see, their making fun of me!
        Skeeter: Huh?
Bebe: And that girl in front of me, she was so nosy!
Doug: See, they did it again!
        Skeeter: Did what, man?
Patti: I think some people should just keep their big noses out of other people's business.
Doug: "Big nose," did you hear that?
Skeeter: Hey, don't get your nose bent out of shape.
Doug: That's it, I'm outta here!

      • Mr. Bone: (over the intercom) Absolutely last call for picture takes. That means you, Funnie!

      • Doug: (coughing) I think I'm sick.
        (While filing her nails)

        Nurse: What's your story?
        Doug
: I have.. uh.. Turkey pox?
Nurse: You're the fourth kid today to pull that one on me. Try again, Mister.
        Doug
        : Uh, the Kangaroo Flu?
        Nurse
        : (shakes her head) Nooooooo..
        Doug
: I had an allergic reaction to beets?
(Nurse gives Doug an angry stare)

        Doug
: I think I'll go get my picture taken now?
        Nurse
        : Bingo!

      • Dale: Big nose!

    • NOTES (3)

      • Photo Swap Day is mentioned again in episode 105 "Quailman's Bad Hair Day", but this time at Beebe Bluff Middle School.

      • In Doug's Big Nose, Patty's Gym shirt reads: "PHYS ED. MAYO"

      • "Doug's Dog Date" is the first episode where we hear of Mr. Swirly and see his mobile. It's also the first time we see that Porkchop loves "Peanutty Buddy Bars". We also see Doug playing his banjo for the first time. Skeeter's little brother Dale and Ding Dong Daycare are also introduced in this episode.

    • ALLUSIONS (3)

      • The Mr. Swirly ice cream truck is a spoof of the Mr. Softy ice cream trucks.

      • After Doug goes looking for Porkchop in the rain, he finds Porkchop walking home drunk on love wearing a tux, a top-hat and an umbrella. As Doug is telling Porkchop how worried he's been getting, Porkchop, with his umbrella in hand, swings from a street light. This is an allusion to the classic movie and song of the same name, "Singing In The Rain".

      • After the Vet tells Doug he needs to follow his dog Porkchop around like a detective, Doug has a daydream of him as a detective. In it, he says, "This is the city, Bluffington. When somebody needs their dog tailed, they come to me. My name's funny--I tail dogs." This is a direct knock-off of Joe Friday in the original Dragnet.
