Theda and Phil watch a spoof of the classic movie "It's A Wonderful Life" (starring James Stewart) on their TV. The character on the TV mentions going to Washington and being a senator, this is a reference to another James Stewart film called "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". He also mentions being a circus clown and getting into a train wreck, a reference to the film "The Greatest Show On Earth", yet another James Stewart movie reference.

Doug rents movies from Lack Luster Video (spoof of Blockbuster Video). Various movie posters include "TryPanic" (Titanic) and "Targetman VI". Some of the videos Doug rents are "Blown In The Wind", "Like Story", "When Herb Met Freida", "Awake Wisconsin" and "My Last Friend's Wedding".

Doug's daydream when he is playing piano, is a reference to the Rachmaninoff scene from the 1955 film "The Seven Year Itch". Patti even wears a dress similar to one worn by Marilyn Monroe in the film.

Chalky makes a reference to Bugs Bunny when he sees Doug eating carrots at the party.
