In this final episode of Season 3, Matthew and Mary are obviously keeping important secrets from each other, the question is, what is each of them holding back? Carson must decide what to do with Thomas, whose future employment at Downton rests in his hands but Thomas may be surprised to find support from an unexpected quarter.

A visit from Violet's great-niece could have more behind it after things are learned concerning her in London.

Everyone is very pleased at the prospect of the upcoming village cricket match, especially Robert, who shows everyone an unexpected competitive side to his nature.

Downton Abbey Review: Wherein Everybody Changes Their Mind About Thomas

On one hand it's AWESOMELY progressive of everyone to accept Thomas's homosexuality, but isn't it also kind of WEIRDLY progressive? To the point of maybe being out of character for most of our characters considering the time period?

To put it simply, I loved it. It takes a VERY talented writer to have a season finale which not only neatly ties up all the previous issues, but also, leaves the plot wide opened in the event of another season. Julian Fellowes has that gift in spades. The whole plot of 'Downton Abbey' is almost always seamless and, therefore, it's a pleasure to watch. The cricket match ending is a perfect example of exactly the right spot and I am very impressed.

The unanswered, yet partly answered questions concerning Mary and Matthew, Tom and the baby, Thomas's future, whether Ethel will see Charlie again, etc. were all left open-ended.

I won't say too much more as our American audience is yet to see the third season, but I WILL say that you will not be in the slightest disappointed when you do watch it. Another season, please, Julian Fellowes!!moreless
