It has just been announced that Julian Fellowes and his brilliant team have been given a third season of 'Downton Abbey'. This series, with screening dates etc. not yet known, will take the Crawley family and their servants into the 1920s and I for one can't wait as I think it will be amazing. Of course, I may be just a LITTLE bit biased!

Excellent news for all fans.

According to creator Julian Fellowes, the third series will span an 18 month period between 1920 and 1921 and the majority of regular cast members will be back with some yet-to-be-named new additions. Will still have no idea of any actual screening dates for the upcoming Christmas Special or, of course, the third series as it is far too soon to be certain but we will keep you posted.

I am half way on episode three only of season two, but already since the fourth season of the tudors left my visceral longing for a period drama of this quality has subdued.

This show is utterly amazing, captivating, and enthralling. Once finished, I intend to rewatch a number of times. Lady Mary is an angel, and she should be nicer to her younger sister, Ethyl I think her name is. They shouldn';t be at each others throats, they both only desire to be happy, and they both ruin it for each other.

but my digressions aside, I was wondering if you were in deed actual royalty, i mean I could call myself Sir or Lord bkto, but that doesn't make it so.. are you actually a lady.. (because when you said you were biased, i understood that to mean you are)

and point of order, strong family yada yada, all women would be ladys in my book (but the english see it differently )

I am glad you enjoy the show so much. No, I am not a titled 'Lady', it's just an internet user name. My bias comes from the fact that I am such a big fan of the show and, therefore, I expect it will be good.

I heard somewhere that Shirley McLaine will be portraying Cora Crawley's mother in Season 3. I'd love to see Cora's mother and Violet Crawley going at it.

I agree, I think Violet would love a chance to 'have words' with Cora's mother and I too have heard that Shirley McLaine is to play the role. We will have to see what develops.

So glad that this ended up going from a miniseries to an actual series. I can't remember the last time we had a really good period piece TV show!

Yes, I totally agree. A decent series is very rare these days. Julian Fellowes has said that the upcoming Season 3 will be the last one but who knows, maybe if the fan reaction is strong enough, he may be persuaded to continue, providing the stoylines are there.
