Dr Finlay's Casebook (Series 1) is due for release in March 2013 via Simply Media.
  • In the late 1920s, a brash young doctor arrives in the small highland town of Tannochbrae and becomes the partner of the older and wiser Dr. Cameron, from whom he learns many lessons in humility.

With American medical shows - "Dr. Kildare", "Ben Casey", "The Nurses" - suddenly all the rage in Britain, it was inevitable that British television should come up with one of its own, and that it would be a little bit different. Small-town Scotland made rather a noticeable change from all those big-city hospital dramas, and the period setting was new, too. The series derived from short stories by A.J. Cronin (himself a doctor, and a Scot) in his book "The Adventures Of A Black Bag". The very modern Dr. Finlay (Bill Simpson) frequently clashed with veteran Dr. Cameron (Andrew Cruickshank), but his methods were not always as effective as those of the kindly, crusty, clever older man. The series was hugely popular for seven years.
