Pot-Bellied Pigs

Season 1, Episode 1, Aired
EDIT

Episode Summary

In the premiere episode, Ben sends off quite a lot of money -- $2,999.99 each -- to buy two pot-bellied pigs, theoretically to breed them, although he didn't specify which sexes he wanted. This sudden interest in animal husbandry comes after Katz lectures Ben about finding a job.

Dom Irrera and Bill Braudis are the patients this week.moreless

Dr. Katz Professional Therapist has a great first episode with "Pot-Bellied Pigs." From the start the characters well written (er, well improvised) and very much in character, somewhat of a rarity as far as pilot episodes go.

Dom Irrera and Bill Braudis are both good in this episode. Bill would later do writing for another Tom Snyder Production, "Home Movies," and you can find similarities between his routines and the style of many jokes from HM. The animation style is certainly stylized and very much a love it or hate it, and there is very little difference between this episode and later ones, so if you hate it, don't cross your fingers for anything more down the road. I find it charming, however.

A very good episode, start of something great.moreless

    • Ben: so ... you're my father's receptionist. You know, I mean, in a way, we're sort of related, you and I, like siblings or something, because we both work for my Dad. I mean, you're his receptionist, and I'm his son. So, you know, fantastic, super. Laura: Could you go now? Edit
    • Ben: Do you wanna go out and get a cup of coffee, or something? Laura: Oh yeah, wow, I'd love to, oh that'd be great. Ben: great Laura: Um, okay, so if anyone calls, you just pick up the phone and you just say 'Dr. Katz's office, please hold,' and you press that button right there. Ben: I was actually... Laura: I won't be long. Ben: I meant that I would treat you to a cup of coffee. Laura: Okay, but could you just reimburse me when I get back? Edit
