An injured woman arrives in town and is revealed to be Loren's sister-in-law and former love interest. She admits that she has left her husband because he beats her. He arrives to take her home, and she agrees to give him another chance. However, she is back shortly saying that he will never bother her again. She spoke the truth, as it is later revealed that he is dead, and she is the prime suspect. Dorothy is unable to defend herself and is convicted. In a final attempt to clear Dorothy, Dr. Mike performs an autopsy, revealing that Dorothy's husband died of natural causes, and she is acquitted.
