  • Out of darkness?

This episode makes more sense of the relationship between Dracula and Josef if you watch the webisode prequels. It is in the prequels that the main characters are developed with Josef as the narrator. It also tells a lot about the Order of the Dragon. Dracula lived at a barbaric time and he did barbaric things. HIs hubris cost him his wife, his life, and sentenced him to eternity as one of the undead. Forced to live in darkness or burn in the light.

    • R.M. Renfield: (handing a drink to Dracula) Lady Jane is a huntsman.
Dracula: Seems the Order Draco is more forward thinking than I gave it credit for.
R.M. Renfield: (snorting slightly) Strange times.
      Dracula: Wonderfully strange.
      R.M. Renfield: You'll kill her?
Dracula: If I kill her, the Order will just send somebody else to replace her.
R.M. Renfield: You'll end it with her?
Dracula: Now, why would I do that?
      R.M. Renfield: She's a vampire hunter.
Dracula: Renfield, not only would I evade her slightest suspicion. I'll take from her a price, she's given no other man.
      R.M. Renfield: (smirking) Her love.
Dracula: No! Something far more precious... Her trust.

    • Dracula: You would not have recognized her. So contrite, so gentle, so shy. I've sheared the tigress' claws.
R.M. Renfield: Just as you said you would, Sir.
Dracula: Although some doubted me, she'll ever see me now. The Order Draco has lost its most dangerous weapon and it doesn't even know it.
R.M. Renfield: And you were able to remove Josef in the process. A master stroke.
Dracula: (looking downcast into the flames) Yes.
      R.M. Renfield: I'm sorry, Sir.
Dracula : Don't mention it. Josef was a soldier, he would have understood. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a knight to capture a queen.
