
Friday and Gannon are working the night watch out of the Detective Headquarters, Field Investigative Section on this, the last, episode of Dragnet. They show us and a new cop the importance of field officers and help us feel the pain of the victims and their friends. The plot lines include two robbery murders, a purse snatching, and the robbery of a man who lost all the money he had in the world. Gannon show us how large and tender his heart is for his fellow man.

Joe stops at an all night launderette to buy cigarettes and interrupts a burglar working the coin changer. When he shouts "Freeze," the criminal comes up shooting. Joe returns fire, hitting the man, who flees with the help of his girlfriend. He's later found dead. When SID tries to find the bullet fired at Joe, they come up empty and Joe faces a shooting board with no proof the man ever fired at him. A great surprise ending.

A surly teenager throws acid on the back of another student (played by a teen-aged Jan Michael Vincent), then crashes a party armed with a live hand grenade.

Friday and Gannon are the first responders to a man who barricaded himself inside a room in his home and apparently committed suicide because his estranged wife spurned his repeated attempts to reconcile. An otherwise ordinary investigation takes a dramatic turn when forensics reveals the gun found in the man's hand couldn't have fired the bullet that killed him.

Friday and Gannon are temporarily assigned to the West Valley Division, which is being overwhelmed by juvenile crime due to the population explosion and lacking sense of community and morality. They focus their attention on a number of recently formed underground organizations run by privileged teenagers who initiate new members by requiring them to steal items, ranging from shoe strings to automobiles, from area merchants.

Someone senselessly murdered a Japanese widow, leaving her very young and small daughter an orphan. Friday has a hard time controlling his emotions while seeking the killer.

After Friday appears on a television program to discuss how swindlers operate, he and Gannon are approached by a member of the production staff who tells them of a supposed Vietnam veteran with a Medal of Honor who has convinced his elderly wife to purchase $85 in magazine subscriptions.

Friday goes undercover with the Department's chaplain in order to break up a gambling ring.

An elderly man and woman are killed in a marked crosswalk by a hit and run driver. Friday and Gannon do an extensive investigation. He receives a light sentence, even though he has a drunk driving record dating back to his high school days. Their frustration is compounded when they have another unfortunate run in with the man several months later.

An officer investigating a nearby liquor store robbery takes a shotgun blast to the abdomen at point blank range by one of two men in a parked car. Friday and Gannon's investigation goes nowhere for three months until an informant requests to meet Joe at the middle of the football field in Los Angeles Coliseum.

Over $200,000 worth of Imperial Jade is reported stolen. Friday and Gannon determine the burglary was an inside job.

Gannon goes undercover as a buyer in order to trap fur thieves.

Friday and Gannon try to figure out a pattern to a series of candy store hold-ups. The solution comes when they discover that there are two suspects.

An elderly, widowed apartment manager has been beaten to death with a hammer by a 19-year-old tenant who robs him of his wedding ring and life savings – all $6.58 of it. Friday and Gannon's investigation requires them to travel to Cottonwood, Arizona.

Two con men, posing as bank examiners, are bilking the elderly out of their life savings.

Friday and Gannon investigate a series of cocktail lounge robberies perpetrated by individuals in red masks. Their lead suspect is a 17 year old boy with an extensive juvenile record and currently married to a 29 year old woman who was desperate for love and thinks she has reformed him.

An officer who has been out of the academy only 114 days has been positively identified as the perpetrator of a liquor store robbery while on an undercover operation, but adamantly maintains his innocence. Friday and Gannon are tasked with the investigation and interrogation.

Friday and Gannon help an employee rescue her kidnapped boss.

Friday and Gannon race against the clock to locate 400 pounds of high velocity gelatin dynamite that have been stolen from a construction company, and are forced to use trickery to compel the white-supremacist suspect to divulge where he has placed and armed half of it.

Friday and Gannon are introduced to a new drug called LSD when they receive a call of young man known on the street as "Blue Boy" who has a painted face and is chewing the bark off a tree in a vacant lot. Several months pass before legislation is passed that allows them to start combating the sale and distribution of the drug, which turns out to be too late for at least one user.
