Episode Summary

Robbery - The Harassing Wife
A harassing wife goes after her ex-husband by telling the police her husband is doing every robbery in town. Time and time again the police check him but don't find anything to support the wife's charge. This is Dragnet's interpretation of "Peter and The Wolf."

  • A wife keeps saying her husband did it, till everyone simply wants to ignore her. Unfortunately, for her Friday keeps listening and the ending isn't the fun she expected or desired.moreless

This episode gives the viewer the feeling they are seeing an updated version of "Peter and the Wolf." Whether we have Jack Webb, the writer - Alf Harris -, or someone else to thank for this modern interpretation, we'll have to wait to hear from someone close to this episode.

In any case, they writer provides dry humor through how Friday has to handle the wife of the suspect (11 calls and at least 2 visits in 19 days) and her reaction at the end. It honestly reminds me of how wives react to the police when they fail to show up, do show up, or arrest an husband for a domestic call.

In the end, the wife really does do the husband in and drives him back to prison, maybe for the rest of his life.

This is a really good Dragnet episode and really perfect as a humorous Dragnet episode.moreless
