  • FANTASTIC. i

If it isnt considered the best anime series it should be considered the anime series that brought anime into mainstream. If you watch it now it may seem outdated and the grahpics old BUT IT WAS MADE MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO. Unlike Naruto each episode is packed with action, comedy and drama. A beautiful blend of all the things that make anime great. Definitely the most influential Anime Series.
  • If not, THEE greatest anime of all time

Dragonball Z is one of those shows that is pretty hard to write about in a review. Simply, Dragonball Z is one of the greatest anime of all time. It has everything you could love in an anime; great characters with great personalities, epic fight scenes, brilliant animation, perfect artwork, and so much more! This pretty much defines my love for anime and the culture of Japan. Simply how I got into Dragonball Z was because my brothers would watch it, so I got into Dragonball Z.

Dragonball Z is the sequel to Dragonball, created by Akira Toriyama, about a monkey-tailed boy named Goku, who is now an adult (missing his tail) with his wife Chi-Chi and his son, Gohan. A new threat from outer space, a group of warriors called the Saiyans, arrive on earth, starting with Raditz, Goku's older brother, and then later Vegeta, Prince of the Saiyans, and Nappa. The story then shifts to Namek to fight the evil tyrant Frieza, and then back to earth to face the androids and Majin Buu.

What I like is that the story doesn't feel to epic, not in the bad way, but it doesn't feel overboard. Like, with Naruto Shippuden, I feel that that anime is too overboard. I don't mind if something is too overboard and epic, and long as I can keep up with it. Sailor Moon sounds epic, but I really can't get into watching that anime. Anyways, Dragonball Z is still epic, with many things that makes it an epic masterpiece.

The characters and villains for one are all brilliant and well developed. Goku for one has to be one of the funniest and greatest heroes of anime. He's kind, he's caring, and eats a lot. I believe that's where I got my love for food from, haha. Then there is his son, Gohan, who starts off as a scared little kid and then becoming more brave and eventually ascends to a Super Saiyan 2. However, he turns into a nerd when he becomes a teenager, which my brother and I hate. Chi-Chi is a bit of a b*tch especially towards Gohan, saying he can't fight and has to study, but is however somewhat likable. Many other characters include Bulma, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and many others. The villains are all perfect too, such as Vegeta, who later becomes good, and is so badass once he become Majin. Frieza was one of the best villains, however, he was a bit cocky. Cell, however, was more of the cocky one, always saying how perfect he is. Buu, who went through so many different transformations and such, wasn't as cocky. I think the funniest villains would have to be the Ginyu Force. Overall, the characters and villains are all perfect in their own way.

The animation is good for it's time, even being traditional animation. There are some parts where it doesn't look right, mainly in the earlier seasons, but this in normal and common in a show. The animation was done by Toei Animation, who also did the animation for Sailor Moon, but, oh, my god, they made the animation is Sailor Moon so bad at times, like when they're standing around or talking. I know it was old, but still. The fights scenes are all cleverly drawn, sometimes they might look repetitive, like the same sequel, but they're still epic, and fast-paced, unlike Naruto Shippuden. Once Goku goes Super Saiyan, and later Gohan going Super Saiyan 2, the fight scenes are unbelievably epic. Some might say that they go overboard with the transformation scenes, or when a character is powering up, but you do want it to look epic, right? The artwork is also perfect too. The backgrounds are nicely painted, and aren't washed out like in Sailor Moon, where the backgrounds looked washed out with little detail.

The voices are all good, sometimes bad. Goku has a much better voice than in the Japanese version, I mean, why did he have a girl voice? But sometimes, the acting sounds like a monotone, and sound dramatic. However, most of the voices still fit, such as Vegeta. Sometimes, Gohan's voice when he was a kid can get on my nerves.

The music is the hard part to talk about. I can't stand most of the music in the English dub, talking FUNimation's music. It's everywhere, it's too dramatic sometimes, has too much rock, and feels to boyish. I mean, just because you have a show about a bunch of guys fighting, it doesn't really mean it needs rock music. The Japanese music isn't in every scene, but it gets slightly boring after a while, and sounds poorly recorded, no offence. I'm still not sure if the Japanese or English music is good.

Overall, it is still the best anime of all time, with great characters, epic fights and transformations, brilliant animation and artwork, and so much more. I think this is it for my review. I may do a better review in the future, if I ever feel like re-reviewing this show.moreless
