Meanwhile, Android 16 seeks the help of Hercule so that he can have one final word with Gohan. Hercule grants his wish and throws android 16's head towards Gohan. • Watch out, Cell's got children and they arent the kind you'd want to pinch their cheeks. The Z-fighters are in for it this time.

    9.5
Essentially, this episode focuses on the Cell Juniors fighting the Z-fighters and dominating. As valiant as they are, the Z-fighters are no match against the Jrs. Krillin, Yamcha, and even Tien are the first to fall before their might…while Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo, and Goku struggle to remain standing. Goku, weakened by his fight with Cell, is pummeled while even Vegeta's mighty "Final Flash" is deflected by a Jr. Gohan watches Krillin being excessively beaten before his eyes and begs Cell to call them off. In the end, it seems none will last when a familiar head is thrown in front of Gohan by the big Hercule (who of course does so from behind a rock). Android 16 tells Gohan that he understands his desires not to fight, but that he has to so as to protect the world and the lives of his friends. Cell grows tired of 16's "sentimental downpour" and stomps oh his head. This causes Gohan to resolve to stop holding back and let it all go, to end all this. And thus the beginning of Cell's downfall, the start of Gohan's SS2 transformation.moreless

  • Bout time, Super Saiyan lvl 2.

    8.5
Android 16 was dismantled by Cell. The Cell juniors fly towards the seven fighters, including an injured Goku. It seemed like an even battle, though Goku's fatigue really showed, and Trunks, Vegeta, Piccolo, Tien, Krillin, and Yamcha, were just no match for the mini Cells. Android 16's head then gets placed near Gohan thanks to Hercule, and he gives him his words of knowledge. Cell crushes the mechanical skull, which ignites Gohan's fury.

The aesthetics for this episode were a lot better done than previous fights. In an all out battle, it was both emotional and entertaining to watch. Emotional that Gohan has to endure the guilt that he's not able to unleash his hidden power without his friends getting hurt, and entertaining because of the aesthetics and better done productions. On top of it all, Hercule wasn't as annoying, and actually served a purpose in this episode.moreless
  • Cell's children continue to battle the Z fighters, who are quickly running out of energy. Android 16 convinces Mr. Satan to throw his head to Gohan. He finally convinces him to let go and release his powers.moreless

    9.6
This episode was DBZ at its absolute best. There was good fighting, character development, a new transformation, a wonderful amount of suspense, and it finished with a thrilling development.

DBZ has always managed to get everyone in on the fight, no matter how powerful the new enemy is, and this battle is no different, with Cell's children attacking the Z fighters. There was beautiful action and teamwork on Tien and Yamucha's part, when they aided the severely fatigued Goku. Vegeta and Trunks get a bit of Super Saiyan action in, so at least they did not completely miss out on the Cell Games. Piccolo had some nice moves in this part as well.

Also, Mr. Satan, a character that up until now was just pure annoyance, actually took on the brave task of running close to the fray to throw Android 16's head to Gohan. Irritating or no, viewers will have a new kind of grudging respect for Mr. Satan, because it took guts for him to do that.

The episode finished beautifully with 16 convincing Gohan that while he may not like violence, sometimes it is necessary to fight to protect others. Gohan finally lets go of his power and transforms.

This episode was beautiful, exciting, and suspenseful the whole way through. One of the best in the series so far!moreless
  • This episode saw Gohan unleash his hidden powers

    10
This episode was brilliant, all through the series we saw Gohan develop his powers, but he was never able to control his anger, but after Android 16's death he finally drops his restraints and begins to power up. Goku knew this would happen, and Cell looks on in horror as he never expexcted Gohan's power to be so great. It seems Gohan has not made the mistake Trunks made, he hasn't bulked up his muscles, and decreased his speed, he is the first saiyan ever to reach the level of Super Saiyan 2. Now Cell is going to battle against this new, fearless warrior.moreless

    • Announcer: They're plain horrid!
      Hercule: Today's been weird.

    • Vegeta: I'll spend no more time playing with petty creatures such as you. Understand?
      (Cell Jr. smiles and snickers.)
      Vegeta: Now disappear! FINAL FLASH!!

    • Narrator: It is a secret we have known before Gohan could even form words in his mouth. Through fights with Raditz, Garlic Jr., the Ginyu force and even Frieza, we caught glimpes of the childs explosive power, but like an explosion it always vanished with a moment, it couldn't be controlled, until now. At last, the beastly power has been harnessed. Now Cell will battle a warrior eleven years in the making on the next Dragonball Z.

    • Gohan: 16...you loved life. You gave everything up to save it, and you were just an android. I let you die...I can't do that. I won't watch anymore. I feel it slipping...AND I WON'T WATCH THIS ANYMORE!
      (begins to power up)

    • Cell: Not much longer until he pops! Playtime is over children, you can kill them now!
      Gohan: NO!!!

    • Cell: One more push is all he needs! Come on now! First one with a kill wins a prize!

    • Announcer: Cell has spit from his back...1...2...3...4...5...6...7... SEVEN MONSTERS! THEY LOOK JUST LIKE CELL, EXCEPT THEY'RE LITTLE AND BLUE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!
