Episode Summary

A worker from other world is supposed to change jars filled with souls from bad people, but his carelessness led to overfilling one and the machine exploded, not only mutating the worker into a beast called Janemba, but also affect entire Other world. Grand Kai send Goku and Pikkon to investigate what is happening at the Checking station and what they see is an entire world of crazy. While Pikkon tries to free king Yama from the glass prison, Goku battles Janemba in hell. Later on Vegeta joins the fight, but his pride almost led to his destruction, and the only way to stop Janemba was through fusion.

The events of this movie cannot be placed even in the anime continuity and probably has the most plot holes of any of the movies. Since Baba brought the dead Goku to Earth, Goku has never been on the Supreme Kai's planet. After the death of Vegeta, Gohan was either thought to be dead or on Supreme Kai's planet, and Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Videl were either searching for the Dragon Balls to wish back Vegeta's victims or on Kami's Lookout. Not to mention Shenron can only grant two wishes at this point, not three.

Goku tells Janemba he is the only one aside from Majin Buu who made him go SSJ3, which means Goku already fought Majin Buu in this episode. also, Vegeta here is dead (the halo), which means he is still dead. This means this movie happened within the Buu saga.

Part of Veku's voice sounds exactly like King Kai's voice. That's because Goku and King Kai are done by the same actor.

When Vegeta joins in fighting Janemba, Goku uses instant transmission to transport himself and Vegeta to an isolated area to learn to fuse. However, unlike the Supreme Kai's instant transmission, Goku is only limited to reaching areas with life. For example, the reason Goku was able to reach Kame house during the Trunks Saga was because Roshi and Turtle were there.

During Gohan's fight with Frieza, Captain Ginyu can be seen in his frog form. However, he is incorrectly colored dark brown, instead of bright blue/green.

Although Shenron remains summoned throughout the movie, the skies alternate between dark during the Shenron scenes, and light during the rest of the movie.

Goof: Goku's top suit is completely ripped after a fight scene as a Super Saiyan 3. In a later shot, the right side is undamaged!

In one of the last episodes of GT, Vegeta not only knows about the Fusion Dance, but performs it perfectly on his first try too. This wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for this movie. However, GT still has an endless supply of other plotholes.

Janemba has very many characteristics of Buu.Both absorbed carefree people to reach their first form such as Dai kaio and Majin Buu, & the teenage ogre Saike & the evil of the history of earth combined(Janemba).Both were once sealed away deep in a sacred area. Both have a first form where they are big fat, can only say their name, stupid, have bulgy eyes, and force Goku to turn SSJ3. Both turn into a new, stronger creature who can stretch their arms, beat Vegeta effortlessly, skinnier, dont say their name as much as the first form, but laugh more, and have no eye brows. Also, both creatures could only be overpowered by fusion between Goku and Vegeta (minus Kid Buu and the spirit Bomb)

A game for the PSP called Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai is based on this movie.

The transporting ability Janemba uses to attack is sort of like the power of the golden tiger claws in Xiaolin Showdown, which can transport anything or anyone to any where the user thinks of.

Janemba's mutating the worlds allows dead people access to the Living World. Of them were the well known Count Dracula, Romeo and Juliana (a spoof of Romeo and Juliet), and the Dictator and his army (a spoof on Adolf Hitler).
