Jeice and Burter go all out and Burter basts hes the fastest person in the universe. BUt Goku can easily defeat him ( although it should have taken longer) He lets Jeice retreat and he does sending the Captain into battle against the invinsible goku. Meanwhile Vegeta is taken to the healing chamber!
  • It's one of the longest Dragonball Z episodes, and one of the most boring ones too.

Jeice and Burter continue their battle with Goku. However, Goku continues to remain fearless, playing with the two colourful warriors. Goku finally had enough, and finished off Burter. Jeice ran away back to Captain Ginyu. Burter and Recoome were still alive, barely hanging onto a thread, but Vegeta completely obliterates Burter's neck, and sends Recoome into oblivion. Vegeta tells Goku he's way too soft. Jeice reports back to Captain Ginyu. Ginyu is furious, and heads towards the spot where Goku is. The other grunts bury the dragon balls in the ground. Goku and Vegeta sense their presence heading towards them, and tell Krillin and Gohan to chase after the dragon balls that were left behind at the spaceship. Friza on the otherhand, is searching for a namek himself in order to find out how to exactly summon the dragon.

Oh my gosh, I couldn't believe how happy I was for this episode to be over. The episode wasn't really painful to watch, but it was painful to hear! The rights to Dragonball Z switched to another studio, and on their first episode with the anime, they did a horrible job. It literally feels like you're watching those parodies with people doing the dubs themselves (Juggernaut b*tch video). While I was kind of glad that some of the voice actors for some of the characters sound much better than their previous actors, most notably Goku, all the others sound worse. Krillin's other voice actor was much more suited for Krillin's role, and Gohan sounds so monotone and dull. Burter, Jeice, and Captain Ginyu, also all suffered from the voice transition. Bulma's current voice actor is as good as the previous one, so that's the only one I can't knock on. The only thing that improved in the sounds department from the transition was the improved soundtrack.

As for the episode itself, well, I couldn't really concentrate, so I'm not sure how I'm going to review this. The fight featured some awesome moments, but like every frikkin episode in Dragonball Z, feels dragged out. In fact, I've used that term so much in previous episode reviews, I'll just assume you know what I'm talking about. Though for an actual full lengthed episode that is approximately 27 minutes in actual recording time, how did they waste so much time? They could have just compressed it in just 20 minutes and it would have been just as good. In fact, maybe it'd be better since we'd be hearing less of the horrible voice acting. Though after the incident with Vegeta murdering Recoome and Burter, or how the show prefers to call it, sending them into the next "dimension", which isn't entirely false, it got pretty boring, FAST!moreless

Goku appears behind Berter, who is enraged at the fact that there is someone quicker than he. Berter asks who Goku is and he replies that he is a Saiyans raised on Earth. Berter says that no Saiyans as fast as that, and that one cannot win on speed alone. Berter charges at Goku and they engage in combat. Jeice's anger billows up as well and he joins in the fightmoreless

    • Jeice: (to Goku) I don't know who this guy is, or where he came from, but he's good! I've never seen anything like it! We never even touched him! Now that's one bad dude! I'm bad, but man..we ain't that bad! Sometimes, you gotta know when to go, go go! (flies away)

    • Jeice: We've had enough of this you coward, now make a move
(Goku punches Jeice in the face.)
      Jeice: AHH!!
Burter: Jeice, is it bleeding. Careful, Jeice or you'll stain your gloves.
      Jeice: Burter, just, shut up.
Goku: You said to make a move, I thought you meant you were ready to go at it.
Jeice: Yes, no, show him Burter!

    • Vegeta: This is nuts, I knew that Kakarot got stronger and faster, but Burter and Jeice couldn't even lay a hand on him, how could someone improve that much in such a short amount of time. All that power and yet he desires nothing, that makes him even harder to beat because he doesn't have any weaknesses to exploit, he's like a mountain, impassive, impenetrable.

    • Ginyu: You idiot! We're the Ginyu Force! The only one in the Universe stronger than us is Lord Frieza!

    • Ginyu: Captain Ginyu himself will go and show him the basics of fighting.

  • NOTES (5)

    • The Ginyu Force Saga is the shortest Saga in the whole series.

    • This episode marks the beginning of FUNimation working with a cast exclusively their own: from voice actors to background music. The episodes from this point onward are also not as heavily edited when aired on television, at the least sticking to the original episode instead of combining multiple episodes into one. Their title cards for the episodes are also not animated, unlike the previous 53 episodes.

In terms of DVD releases, this episode also marks the beginning of FUNimation distributing the series uncut and bilingual (English dub and original Japanese with subtitles) without the help of company, Pioneer. In other words, episodes 54 until the end of the series has an accompanying "uncut" version that removes any edits made for the American broadcast version.

As if to commemorate the day, Cartoon Network promoted September 13 as "Z-Day", preempting all other Toonami shows for the sake of airing the last two episodes from DBZ Season 2 and the first two new episodes of DBZ Season 3.

    • Japanese Airdate: November 14th, 1990

    • Japanese Title: At Last, a Direct Confrontation!! Captain Ginyu Takes the Field

    • This episode begins the Captain Ginyu Saga.
