An overall calm and relaxing episode where they go over the memoryies of gohan. Just like the previous!moreless
  • Relaxing, calm, and thoroughly enjoyable.

    8.5
Throughout the episode, the past is visited about Gohan when he was a child; from deciding his first name, to the time he was almost killed when Goku's mind went blank for a second. Later on, in their very own house, they celebrate Gohan's birthday! However, Cell continues to wait out the day that he dominates the earth.

I really enjoyed this episode a lot. A lot of flashbacks, but again, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. All of the flashback scenes though, felt a little bit dragged out, however, it maintained its feeling. The viewpoint of Goku remaining calm in order to preserve the happiness among his family was a pretty good philosophical point. Pretty thought provoking.moreless
  • As they enjoy their last days before the battle with Cell, Chi-Chi and Goku remember times from Gohan's childhood.

    8.0
I thought this episode was very well-written, and done very smoothly. All of the flashback sequences happened at natural points during the script, and we were smoothly brought back to the present time. The flashbacks themselves were nice: very simple, yet sweet. We got to see Goku and Chi-Chi after they first had Gohan, and certain instances in Gohan's childhood.

It's true that nothing happened in this episode, but since there's a big battle coming up, it's okay that they're taking a break from action episodes. The pace of these last few episodes has been nice and slow; a rest period before the Cell Games, where the action will pick up again.moreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • We learn that Gohan wasn't born with a tail. We learn this from when Chi Chi was thinking back to naming Gohan, we can clearly see that Gohan is tailless. However in Goku's memory of Gohan being young, he does have a tail. So this can give use the conclusion that some time from when Gohan was born and to his young toddler years he grew a tail.

    • Gohan turns 11 in this episode, but in the manga he is actually 10 years old.

    • When Chi Chi is talking to Goku about Gohan's party, listen carefully: She actually says "Goku's party".

    • In the Ocean dub airing in the UK, on Chi Chi's photo album, there is the surname the family has in the original version: 'Son'. This name is never used in the dub.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Reporter: Of course of you to answer incompletely, I understand, Mr. Cell, sir!
Cell: Here's my answer. (fires an energy beam on the cameramen) Now, say your prayers. (kick Reporter out)

    • Gohan: I have an idea. Maybe we should use paper plates and cups!
Chi Chi: Think again kid! What a funny sense of humor. Paper cups and paper plates, you must get that from your mommy.

    • Goku: Hey Gohan, your mother is 100% right. It would be best for you to study this afternoon. (Gohan, Krillin, and Chi-Chi get shocked) What I'd do?
      Krillin: You don't know?
      Gohan: Gosh, daddy!
      Chi-Chi: Are you sick?!
