Episode Summary

EDIT
Piccolo's Return
Porunga comes with benefits, but also unexpected catches that threaten to leave Piccolo/Kami, Yamcha, Tien or Chiaotzu dead. Krillin and Gohan don't know what to do, but Piccolo gets an idea. He tells Krillin, Gohan and Dende via King Kai to wish him back and then to Namek. The first will also bring back Kami and the Earth Dragon Balls, while the second will give the Z Fighters some extra muscle. Unfortunately, a mix-up lands Piccolo far from Frieza's ship. Vegeta then realizes what is going on and tries to claim his wish for immortality. However, Guru dies before anyone can use the third wish. Even worse, Frieza has returned.moreless

this episode has gohan, krillin, and dende wishing piccolo back to life. then they wish him to planet namek. vegeta finds out that they have used th dragonballs, and he gets pissed. he wanted to wish for immortality. theres one wish left, and everyone senses frieza heading toward them, so gohan and krillin agree to wish vegeta to be immortal, but then the dragonballs turn to stone. this means guru has died. suddenly, frieza shows up, and things are looking bad for our heroes. will they defeat frieza? probably not, but lets cheer for them anyway, lol.moreless
  • Piccolo comes back!

    8.7
Gohan and Krillin summon Porunga to wish their friends back to life. But to their surprise and disappointment, they learn only one person can be revived per wish. Unable to wish back all four of their friends, Krillin and Gohan decide to wish Piccolo back to life, which will revive Kami and the Dragon balls on Earth. But Vegeta arrives before the last final wish is cast and he is not happy.moreless
  • Wow, this was actually better than usual.

    8.1
Krillin and Gohan requested that their friends be brought back, but the dragon can only bring one person with each wish. Piccolo devises a plan to wish him back so Kami will also be revived, hence Earth's dragon balls will also be brought back. They used the second wish to bring him to Namek, but the hole in their wish was that he was sent to Namek; not where they were at. A raging Vegeta comes, and demands Dende to wish him immortality. Krillin told Dende to grant him the wish, for it's better off than being killed by Freiza. Though in the middle of the wish, Guru died, and the dragon disappeared. Vegeta, furious that Krillin and Gohan betrayed him, was about to attack them, but another raging Freiza comes as well.

This was actually much more entertaining then the past couple episodes. It was interesting how the dragon could only bring back one person with each wish, which really did provide a shocking sequence. Piccolo's plan was also really surprising. Due to his personality and actions from the past, you'd suspect he'd do it solely for the purpose of just wanting to live again, but he actually did put some thought into it. Plus, there were a couple of humourous moments throughout the episode, such as the dragon's impatient, and telling Krillin and Gohan "Just wish for nothing three times and let me be". And Vegeta's fury when he first arrived provided some humour.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Porunga brings a person back to the place they died. Shenron brings you back wherever.

    • In episode 15 (Black Day For Planet Earth) and 62 (Piccolo's Return), Goku and Piccolo have to either be wished back to the living plane or run across Snake Way to get back to Earth (or Namek). However, in 91 (Namek's Explosion, Goku's End?) and 268 (Earth Reborn), they are wished back to the place where they died.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • King Kai: Hey, what's the deal, Piccolo!? I see, now I get it, bad boy! You got what you want from my training and then tell me to take a hike!
Piccolo: Well, to be blunt, yeah, that's right!

    • Porunga: Look, I'm enjoying the fresh air, but I don't have all day. If you can't make up your minds, just wish for nothing three times so I can go.
Krillin: Wow, a dragon with a sense of humor.

    • Vegeta: Come here you little greenbean, you need some encouragement.
      Dende: Ahhh... stop.
Krillin: Dende, do as Vegeta says.
      Dende: Huh?
Krillin: We're all about to be wiped out by Frieza if we don't try something, and trusting Vegeta is better than being killed, right.
      Dende: I guess so.
Vegeta: you guess so, huh. Kid, I like your style. Hurry up. Do it boy, make the wish.

    • Dende: Don't piss off the God Of Love!

  • NOTES (5)

    • Japanese Airdate: January 30th, 1991

    • Japanese Title: Kami-sama Also Returns to Life! Piccolo is Ressurrected By Super Shenlong

    • Krillin and Gohan manage to make two wishes: 1- Revive Piccolo (and Kami), 2- Bring Piccolo directly to Namek. They were going to wish something unto Vegeta but Guru dies and the balls become inert.

    • The Namek Dragonballs are slightly more powerful than the ones on Earth. They can grant three wishes, however they are limited.

1- Only one person at a time can be resurrected from the dead.
2- No one dead for more than a year can be returned.
3- The balls take 4 months per wish to recharge, meaning you can make 1 wish at a time and let the balls recharge.
4- The Porunga only understands Namek, to summon him you must be able to call out to in Namek.

    • When this episode was first shown on Cartoon Network UK, Dende said to Gohan and Krillin to "Stop pissing off the dragon!!". But when it was repeated months later, CNUK blurbed it out.
