Episode Summary

EDIT

A cliff overlooking the city the Androids are due to attack is the rendezvous point for most of the Z Fighters and Bulma. Vegeta is a no-show, but his and Bulma's son – baby Trunks – isn't. Chiaotzu is absent, too, by Tien's decision. Yajirobe drops by to give Goku some Senzu Beans from Korin. However, just as he leaves, his ship is shot down. Yajirobe is saved, but it is clear that the Androids did it and that the attack has begun. With the Androids somewhere in the city, the Z Fighters begin a search. Yamcha proves unlucky this time, as he finds them first.

  • wow poor yamcha...

    8.9
the androids finally arrive and hide in the city.... Goku and the others go into the city to try to find them hoping there training is enough... They cant sense the androids power but yamcha finds them first. Dr.gero however takes all the life from yamcha and then makes a hole in his stomach (severe violence people!) Well the android sagga has begun
  • Too much searching around...

    7.4
Three years have finally passed. The Z warriors meet up on the outskirts of the city. There, Tien and Yamcha await Krillin, Gohan, Goku, and Piccolo. Bulma is there too, with her newborn baby Trunks clinging onto her chest. Yajirobe came by to drop off some senzu beans, but on his way out, he was attacked by the androids. Gohan flies towards him to ensure his safety, and the others chased after the androids. Problem is, they're unable to detect their energy levels. The warriors split up, and Yamcha is the first one to encounter them. However, his energy is being absorbed by Android 20, while the other warriors are slow to aid.

One effective--or not effective at all--way of making filler is overload on suspense. This is basically what this episode did; so much nonsensical searching around, and while it did showcase how bad and evil the androids are, some of the killings they performed also felt equally unnecessary, or just felt like a waste of time. In addition, it would have added more overall shock value if Yamcha encountered them without us knowing who they are. Too bad we already saw who they are.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • According to Android #19's data Yamcha weighs 68 kg or 149.6 lbs, and he is 183cm.

    • The Androids have scanners built into them that are very similar to Sayians Scouters.

    • Dub Goof: The latest antagonists in the series are described in the dub to be "Androids." However, we later find that some of them are actually cyborgs - humans who have been given cybernetic advantages. In the Japanese version, the term jinzoningen is used instead, roughly translating to "Mechanical/Artificial Human."

    • Age Update: 3 years have passed. Goku and Chichi are 28, Bulma, Yamcha and Tien are 32, Krillin is 29, Vegeta is 33 and Oolong 22. Baby Trunks is about 1. Gohan is 9. Oolong is 25. Future Trunks is 20.

    • Look Closely: Both Goku and Krillin's Kame School gis have been updated. Goku no longer has any symbols of his previous masters on either the front or back of his new uniform, while Krillin now wears a dark blue undershirt beneath his, similar to how Goku has been wearing his uniform since the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai in late Dragonball.

    • Cut: In edited version, the hole punched through Yamcha is not shown when it happens.

    • Yamcha's Stats according to Android 19
      Name: Yamucha
      Address: NB: 8250012B
      Height: 183cm
      Weight: 068kg
      Special Ability: Rouga Whowhoken
Opinion: Stratos No Plamodel Saihansark Te Ureshii

    • Goof/Inconsistency: In the dub, Trunks says that Dr. Gero was the leader of the Red Ribbon Army, but Dr. Gero is never mentioned in the Dragonball universe until now. Even if one were to take this information to heart, it is inconsistent with the information in early Dragonball, in which Commander Red was the leader of the Red Ribbon Army.

    • Goof: Android 19's little band or beanie on his head is half black and half gold. When he is up in the air, it is all black.
