The Secret of Dr. Gero
Yamcha immediately flies Goku home to get him the heart disease antidote. Vegeta and the Androids, though, can't be bothered with their absence because they have more important things on their minds. Vegeta and Android 19 quickly battle. Vegeta finishes what Goku started – reducing Android 19 to rubble. The Saiyan Prince then turns his attention to Android 20, who quickly flees. • Vegeta takes on Android 19 and defeats him. Then Android 20 retreats and all the Z Fighters go after him.

The episode starts off with Android 19 and Vegeta starting their fight. Super Saiyan Vegeta quickly gains the upperhand and is having no trouble with the android. Then Android 19 grabs Vegeta's arms and promises not to let go until he has drained all Vegeta's energy. Vegeta attempts to escape and finally does by ripping off Android 19's hands. After this the android starts running away, but Vegeta launches a blast that destroys his opponent. Vegeta then comes down and says he wants to face Android 20. Instead of fighting the android retreats into the mountains. Vegeta then asks for a sensu bean and goes off to pursue Android 20. Piccolo notes how Vegeta had actually been weakened by Android 19's energy draining and had bluffed as though he was eager to fight. Android 20 had believed the bluff and ran away. The other Z fighters decide to follow Vegeta and try to find the escaping Android. Android 20 determines that he will need to steal more energy to defeat Vegeta. He realizes that Piccolo and the others have followed him and decides to steal energy from them. A minor point to also note in this episode is that Yamcha is carrying Goku home so they can give him the antidote to his heart virus.

Overall I enjoyed this episode a lot. It would have been nice if the fight between Vegeta and Android 19 had been longer, but the rest of the episode was still exciting with the Z fighters trying to find Android 20. I liked how the episode was fast paced so there weren't long periods of just talking with no action going on.moreless
  • stupid episode name.... whats the secret?

Vegeta powers up and assaults android 19. !9 puts up a fight but is quickly over whelmed by vegeta's new super saiyan power. Vegeta blasts 19 into forming a massive crater. Android 19 then suddenly grabs vegeta and starts to take the power from him. Vegeta tries to push him away but 19 holds tight. Vwgwta then pushes harder finally ripping the hands off 19. 19 then runs away and Vegeta blasts him with the big bang attack . So this is all good action..... What i dont understand is how vegeta managed to desroy 19 so effort lessly. When Goku couldnt (before the heart virus came in). Anyway vegeta then threatens gero while Vegeta is actually still quite weak. Gero thinks hes at full power and runs away.

Vegeta takes a senzu bean and then chases gero so do the others. But Gero has a plan he will take all of their powers and then attack vegeta!

So whats the Secret? they dont tell u ( what the...)moreless
  • So, what's the secret?

Android 20 was confident when fighting Vegeta, but the results were reversed. Vegeta killed off the first Android, and bluffed his way against Android 19. 19 hides somewhere amongst the rocks in the mountains. Vegeta tries to lure him out using an attack, but 19 just absorbs it. Though that won't be enough to defeat Vegeta. 19 then recognizes the various Z Fighters looking for him within his surroundings.

How Vegeta destroyed 20 was pretty badass, but what was even more impressive was his bluff. His bluff was executed perfectly, and was what saved him from 19. Piccolo did a good job of analyzing his brilliant battle mind. Though the one thing that's making me wonder in this episode, is the title itself. What's the secret?moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • This episode introduces Vegeta's signature attack: The Big Bang Attack. However, in FUNimation's dub of the episode, Vegeta never verbally states the attack name. Because of this, American fans were most likely introduced to the attack name via one of the many Dragon Ball Z games.

Also, while this is the first time Vegeta uses this attack, some argue that he could have used it earlier on in the series when he used a similar energy attack to kill Jeice.

    • Look Closely: When we see Android 20 secretly observing the Z Fighters through his eyes, the names of the fighters appear in English next to their corresponding character. In particular, when Piccolo and Krillin's names appear, they are spelled in their original Japanese naming convention.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Vegeta: Let me ask you this, what makes you think you will do any better than him? You're an android too, I bet your head rolls just as well as his does!

    • Piccolo: He's a genius when it comes to fighting. Vegeta was weakened by the other android, he was vulnerable but he bluffed, like he was eager to fight the next one. The other android could have defeated Vegeta if he would have call the bluff and attack, but Vegeta was too convincing. Mentally, he's impossible to beat. Physically, he's reached a new plateau. I've never seen anything quite like it.

    • (after ripping Android 19's hands off)
Vegeta: So I guess it's true after all, androids do experience fear.

    • Android 19: I will never let you go!
Vegeta: Yes, that's the spirit Android! NEVER SAY DIE!
      (rips Android 19's hands off)

    • Vegeta: (to Android 19) Just as I thought, you're nothing! Silly robot, do you really think you have a chance against a Super Saiyan like me? Your brain must be malfunctioning!

    • Vegeta: This is ridiculous, an android that's scared to die, what a low rate pile of junk. No guts at all, just a circuits and wires.

    • Vegeta: My, my... what do we have here. Oh yes, the ultimate tub of lard, bucket of bolts.

    • Vegeta: (after pummeling Android 19) I think you have an oil leak. Such a bad deal. What a fragile unit.

    • Vegeta: I only wish there was a junkyard around so we could give him a proper burial.

    • Krillin: Man, oh man! That android's toast!
Piccolo: Yeah! More like... burnt toast!
