  • Vegeta amazes Zarbon with his super strength. But Zarbon reveals a secret of his own.

    8.5
Vegeta and Zarbon begin their fight. Zarbon wants to know where Vegeta hid the Dragonball. Vegeta outclasses Zarbon with his power. But Zarbon reveals of a transformation which will increase his strength dramatically. He is now able to take down Vegeta!

Krillin and Dende are still heading to the Eldest Namek. The dudes are still training at King Kai's planet (what a waste of time!). Goku is still training. Nothing else happens. It's fun watching Vegeta get beaten by Zarbon though (I heard the Japanese version was a lot more violent). Zarbon ends up beating Vegeta and returns to Freiza to tell him the good news.

Is this the end of Vegeta?moreless

  • Painful to watch, literally >_

    8.2
Zarbon, when looking for the dragon balls, encounters Vegeta. The two do some talking, and finally battle. Zarbon was clearly losing to Vegeta, which surprised him since he's the second strongest warrior in Friez's army. He decides to use his trump card; his transformation. With his increased abilities, and new appearance, Zarbon was toying around with Vegeta, using every single part of his body to beat up every single part of Vegeta's body. Vegeta tried fighting back, but he had no opening, for Zarbon was on the offensive the entire team. Vegeta was barely able to escape, but he did, hanging on a mere string. Meanwhile, on King Kai's planet, the four are hard at work with the training King Kai put Goku through on them. Though Piccolo was ahead of everyone else, easily catching Bubbles just a few seconds after he was released. Krillin and Dende continue their trip to the Eldest Namek's house.

I heard the uncut version was a lot more brutal, with endless scenes of Zarbon messing around with Vegeta. I would love to see that version, but too bad I can't find any damn torrents for that specific episode. Oh well, what was shown was brutal enough already. There's no worse feeling in the world than being pushed around in the literal sense, because your body is being forced to do something against its will, and it kind of drains even more energy away when that happens, so there's some area for empathy for Vegeta. The episode dragged some stuff out a little, such as the rather pointless talking between Zarbon and Vegeta, and long breaks inbetween the dialogue. Plus, the scenes with Yamcha, Tien, and Chioutzu, chasing around Bubbles, hogged more screen time than it should have. Though it was funny how Piccolo grabbed Bubbles so unexpectedly quick.

  • Example of Excellence

    10
Zarbon transforms into a hideous reptilian monster and tears Vegeta to shreds. The battle ensues with Zarbon's massive 8-in-a-row headbutt followed by multiple chokeslams and aerial spinwheel kicks, completely obliterating Vegeta. Zarbon is the perfect characterization of the beauty and the beast, all concocted into one villain. Zarbon's power is too much for Vegeta to handle, thus resulting in Vegeta's painful beating. Zarbon reports back to Frieza to tell his master of his victory. This is for me, the most beautifully choreographed episode of DBZ and also the greatest episode ever made in all history of DBZ. It portrays the awesomeness of Zarbon, in my opinion, the greatest character ever.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • King Kai mentions to Yamcha, Tien, Chiotsu and Piccolo that it took Goku three weeks to catch Bubbles. But in Episode 13 the Narrator said King Kai only has 83 days left to train Goku. He caught Bubbles in 5 days and not 21. Unless it was 21 Earth days and 5 otherworld days.

    • Dende said that there's never night on his planet. If this is true, how does he know what "night" is?

  • QUOTES (3)

  • NOTES (5)

    • Uncut Episode Title: Zarbon's Special Surprise

    • Japanese Airdate: June 27th, 1990

    • In the English version, there were many edited scenes in this episode. In the Japanese version however, Zarbon's pure ferocious brutality is witnessed in its uncut glory. One of the most appealing scenes that was edited from the English version was the scene where Zarbon attacks Vegeta after transforming and headbutts Vegeta one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight times in a row. The sheer relentlessness is better viewed in the Japanese version, where there is no censoring. This episode would have to be one of the most brutal episodes in the history of Dragon Ball.

    • - This episode is actually the first time we see Zarbon, a true villain transform. Disregard Vegeta's Oozaru transformation because he's not a true villain since he becomes good later on.
      - According to this episode, Zarbon explains to Vegeta that Frieza was afraid of a union of saiyans, not individually.
      - Zarbon is Frieza's most powerful henchman and he is also the most powerful member of Frieza's entire army. The Ginyu Force are not a part of Frieza's army, they are hired mercenaries, so they do not apply to these ranks. However, Zarbon is Frieza's most powerful warrior followed by Dodoria.
