They cut at least half of the original episodes of Dragon Ball Z.

    Why?

You're joking right? There's no such cut.
Dragon Ball Kai is a revised (that is what the word "Kai" means) and updated version of the original series, Dragon Ball Z, and it has no extra footage, like the "return" of Garlick Jr, for giving an example. It goes straight into action.

So then you don't consider it a cut that the episodes called Showdown in the Past, Home for Infinite Losers, and Trouble On Arlia which are all in Dragon Ball Z but not in Dragon Ball Kai?

You just don't get it, do you? IT IS a REVISED AND REMASTERED AND A MODIFIED version of DBZ, and it is specifically that what the show is about, the episodes are down to around 100 from 291, there are no fillers at all (like Goku and Picollo having their driver licenses) and they're going to try to be faithful to the manga and even the openings and endings are new, and also the background music was changed on purpose! All of this because BANDAI (the enterprise in charge of animation of DB) wanted to make this an HD version of the show.
It doesn't matter what the episodes are called, they have the same content, only more compressed.
There's no cut like Funimation did to DBZ, that's what I'm trying to tell you. The supposed "cuts" are the removal of all the fillers and stuff that made the series a little longer than the original manga.

No they did cut episodes. Like where Gohan helps those troubled Children before the saiyans come, and another one where Goku falls off snake way and lands in HELL or HFLL(ENGLISH VERSION), and the other one where in snake way he meets these three ladies snake monster things that try to eat him. I guess the just consider them pointless, and expect more episodes to be cut, for example in one episode when Gohan, Bulma, and Krillin are headed to Namek, Bulma is in her under garments for an entire episode, that may be in the original but I don't think it will be in KAI.

No, you just don't understand the whole point of this series: Those scenes you mention didn't appear in the original manga, so, they won't appear in Dragon Ball Kai either.

As condeigor said, the "cuts" in Kai are just the removal of filler. Filler is addition of things that didn't happen in the original dragonball manga...which is what the anime DBZ and DB kai are based on. All those episodes you mentioned omega_dog are filler episodes. They didn't exist in the manga, therefore they aren't going to be in Dragonball Kai. In terms of nonfiller though, Kai didn't "cut" anything.

The stretching out of the fights is filler too. That's also how they made the show stretch out as long as it did. Look at Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. It stayed true to the manga (since the manga was finished) and it was 64 episodes.

The reason there was so much filler is because they had to keep from getting ahead of the manga.

The only thing I didn't like (so far) about KAI was the fact that Goku didn't say his most epic line of all time.

See if any of you DBZ fans can guess which line I'm talking about.

It seems it will end at 98 episodes, no Buu saga.

EDIT: It will now end at 97 episodes, due to the earhquake, they delayed episode 96 which had to air one week later, and I guess Toriko can't wait one lousy week, so they're not showing the final episode...DB: Kai could've been the bet version, but it just turned into a freakin' mess with the series being cut short and the music controversy

So I take it that the Buu saga was never in the manga?

It happened in the manga. Kai was just cancelled or ended at Cell.
