When Captian Hero walks through the wreckage crying, he sings the song, "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M
Hadji: Don't give that bitch a statue! Give her some balls!
Foxxy: What did you say, Hadji?
Hadji: You heard me, chump. I am the #1 spelling bee contender, but you're too scared to face me!
Foxxy: I ain't scared of nothing except dying alone, so unless you wanna marry me, which I would like very much, I will take you any time!
Hadji: How about right now?
Charlie Brown: Oh yeah! We beat you worse than Linus' dad beats him!
Linus: You'll protect me, won't you, Blue Blanket?
Charlie Brown: Applebee's, here we come!
(Clara reads the note)
Clara: (gasps) Captain Hero, did you write this?
Captain Hero: Um, if I did, would you want to go out?
Clara: I don't know, Hero. We're roommates. It could get messy.
Captain Hero: (to walkie-talkie) Take out the cat!
(When Foxxy says she won't be in the spelling bee)
Toot: Foxxy, is it because you can't read? If so, AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Foxxy: I was once the best speller in all the land.
Judge: For the win, your word is...illogical. As in: You being allowed to compete after someone else has already won is highly illogical.
Foxxy: Not so fast. Don't forget about the Foxxy.
Man at Bar: Foxxy, you can't run away from your problems, unless your problems are with some kind of tortoise.
Xandir: (Gasp) I'm going ot be late for the spelling bee! Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!
Clara: (reading Hero's note) If you want to see your cat again, you will go out with me.
Foxxy: Make it look like...our living room!
Captain Hero: Seeing Clara so brave and so strong unlocked feelings inside me. Feelings that I usually reserve for socks filled with warm mashed potatoes.
Homeless Guy: Spare some change, ma'am?
Clara: Ugh, get a job.
Wooldoor: Uh. D-O-G. Cat.
Judge: Oh. Close, but that's not the correct spelling of "centrifuge".
Judge: Miss Love, for the win and your sixth consecutive spelling bee championship. Your word is....knickers.
Foxxy: (angrily) Could you please repeat that word?
Judge: Knickers.
Foxxy: Use it in a sentence.
Judge: It's wrong to mix whites with colored knickers.
Foxxy: You racist son of a bitch!
(Foxxy chokes the Judge)
Toot: I'd give Spanky's left testicle for an Applebees coupon.
Spanky: Too late. I already gave that testicle to my one true love: Cancer.
Homeless Guy: You are so dead after school.
Toot: Goddammit! Get your own dam food!
Captain Hero: Oh, I can't. Everytime I go to the lunch store I pass by a really mean bully who makes me give him all my lunch money!
Snow White: That's what we get for letting Mulan drive.
Spanky: You'll be the biggest thing to come out of spelling since Tori's fat head.
Foxxy: Why you dissin' on Tori?
Spanky: She knows what she did.
(Dramatic music playes as the backround goes dark)
Captain Hero: (Dressed as a dog in a dress) So, you like?
Xandir: Nah, too Tori Spelling.
Captain Hero: Why you dissin' on Tori?
Xandir: She knows what she did.
(Dramatic music playes as the backround goes dark)
Xandir: When I found Captain Hero in my closet crying, and not masturbating, I knew something was wrong. So I took him out to do the one thing that always cheers him up: Trying on wedding gowns!
(cut to Bridal Shop, Hero comes out of the fitting room in a gown)
Captain Hero: What do you think? Too Princess Di?
Xandir: Oh, Hero. I brought you here to get your mind off slutty princesses and car crashes.
Spanky: Hey look! The 7-11 is hiring!
Hadji: Mom and Dad got fired?
Captain Hero: And remember kids: Never mess with the emotions of a dangerous lunatic.
This episode aired on The Comedy Network in Canada on November 4, 2007.
We learn that Spanky only has one testicle in this episode.
This episode featured the winner of the "Drawn Together: Get Drawn In!" contest.
Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" is heard during this episode. The title of this song was one of the tattoos on Unusually Flexable Girl's back in Captain Hero's Marriage Pact.
When Harry Met Sally:
The old lady saying "I'll have what she's having" is a line from the movie When Harry Met Sally said by a restaurant patron after Meg Ryan's infamous fake orgasm.
Pac-man/Flava Flav
During Captain Hero's award ceremony, he says that he is one man with three personalities. He then acts like a hispanic person, a baby, Pac-Man, and Flava Flav.
Pac-Man is a popular video game character from the 1980s and Flavor Flav is a rapper and TV personality.
Sports Illustrated/Wheaties
After Foxxy is declared World Champion of spelling, she is seen on Spelling Illustrated and Wheats. These are parodies of Sports Illustrated magazine and Wheaties cereal.
Star Trek
"Housemates, report to the holodeck for an important announcement."
A holodeck is a fictional technology from Star Trek that simulates some sort of environment. The holodeck depicted in the show is similar to the ones shown in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Crash
Clara's sexual arousal from car crashes is a parody of the novel and 1996 movie, Crash. The novel, written by J. G. Ballard, and movie are about a subculture of car-crash fetishists.
The theme is also playing on the fact that two of the worlds most famous princesses both died in car crashes, namely Princess Diana of Wales and Grace Grimaldi of Monaco.
Malcolm X:
Wooldoor mentions Malcolm Q, Foxxy's misspelling of Malcolm X's name. Malcolm X was a prominent, respected African American and Muslim leader in the United States.
Freakazoid!:
Captain Hero runs through the crowd making flying noises with his arms outstretched as if he was flying in the exact same manner as the superhero star of this show, Freakazoid (who always traveled that way because he couldn't fly)
There are a few songs heard through this episode, which include the following: "No Easy Way Out, Rocky's Training Montage" (played off-key,) REM's "Everybody Hurts" sung by Captain Hero, & Bonnie Tyler's " Holding Out for a Hero."
Johnny Quest:
The character of Hadji comes from the classic 1964 Hanna-Barbara animated series, Johnny Quest, and its subsequent reiterations in 1986 and 1996 respectively.
Rocky:
The Rocky movie series is parodied a lot in this episode. The fact that the episode is about a former champ who's fallen from grace, getting tangled up with an opponet who is far superior, the training montage between Master and student, and Hadji's line of "I must break you" comes directly from Rocky IV, along with his mohawk that is a reference to Mr T's appearence in Rocky III.
A Boy Named Charlie Brown
There are many references to the animated movie in this episode. Prime examples of this include someone proving themselves in a spelling bee, whenever someone got a word wrong they would simply 'pop' off of the screen, Linus' need for his security blanket, and Charlie Brown's signature "Ugh!" whenever he fails at something. Also, Charlie Brown's flying into the air and landing on his back when Foxxy pulls away the Applebee's gift certificate is exactly what happens when Lucy pulls away the football.
Disney Princesses:
The fellow princesses that Clara is seen hanging out with in this episode are Snow White, Ariel, and Sleeping Beauty who all of course come from classic animated Disney movies. Mulan (from the animated Disney movie of the same name) is also mentioned, but not seen.
Where's Waldo?:
Clara dresses like Waldo as she says to Hero, "You'll know where to find me."
