EDIT
Before A Fall
AIRED:
The morning after the Lazio win, Don does an interview for Sky Sports News. Don claims taking Harchester to the last 16 in Europe is the highlight of his managerial career. After the interview he finds Fletch waiting for their meeting. Fletch puts his case toward Barker of becoming Assistant Manager, mainly down to the fact that it was his tactics that won them the Lazio game. Don informs Fletch that his timing is spot on as he is going to take doctors orders and go on a break and will leave Fletch in charge until he gets back and Fletch is over the moon. Don gives him his first task - telling Frank that Jodie has lost their baby, of course unknown to Don, Jodie has decided to keep it. As his second act as Assistant Manager, Fletch is called into the boardroom to find Viv and his psychologist, Naomi informing Fletch that he is ready to come back. Viv does not look his normal self due to the medication he is on but on the plus side he is a lot calmer. Fletch tells Naomi that there is no way he can play him in that state, but Naomi doesn't expect him to put him straight into the fold, all she wants is to make Viv feel welcome around the team again. Don is waiting in the hotel lounge for Jodie, expecting her to go on a break with him but she tells him she is not coming. When Jodie says she is staying then Don says he is staying put too but Jodie manages to make him go alone and relax for a week. As Fletch makes his way down to the changing room to introduce Viv back into the team, he faces another obstacle to overcome. Andy walks up to him and hands him his resignation, telling Fletch he is tired of being passed over for the chance to take charge over the team, after Curtis last season. As Andy walks away, Fletch goes back to the changing room but leaves Viv outside. The lads are not too happy that Fletch has been put in charge and not Curtis but Fletch tells them to stop whining and accept it. He then introduces Viv back to the team, which doesn't go down well with the rest of the lads again, especially with Lee. Fletch pulls Frank aside and tells him the news that Jodie had a miscarriage but Frank knows that Don was pushing for Jodie to have an abortion and storms out thinking Don and Jodie have murdered his unborn child. Frank drowns his sorrows in the bar before returning home for some more. Viv and Naomi are sitting in the players lounge with Viv voicing his concerns on whether he will be accepted back or not. Naomi says they need him back but Viv can see they already have a good replacement in young Nathan and begins to have doubts. Frank gives into temptation once again and invites another man round and sleeps with him. As he gets ready to leave, to Frank's horror, Jodie comes home to get the rest of her stuff. Frank tells him to stay in the room until he gets rid of her. Frank goes downstairs to express his disgust at Jodie having an abortion but Jodie turns the tables on him by telling him that she couldn't go through with it. They both sit down and have a talk over what to do. Meanwhile, the guy upstairs takes some of Jodie's money and escapes out the window. Luckily Fletch is driving past and sees this and tackles the man to the ground. He begins to phone the police thinking the man is a burglar but he tells him that he is having an affair and the other half came back and he had to get out of the house. Fletch assumes he is having an affair with Jodie and so lets him go. Viv tries to make it up to the lads and announces that he is re-opening Studs later that night and the drinks are on him. This act of generosity seems to win round the majority but Lee is still giving him the cold shoulder. Nathan comes over to greet Viv and Viv gives him a few pointers and words of encouragement. Naomi goes round to Nathan's house and asks him to ask Viv to help him out in training to make him feel useful. Being a fan of Viv's the young keeper has no qualms over what Naomi is asking. After a good training session, Nathan invites Viv round to his for dinner to which he accepts. During dinner, Nathan's mum lets slip that Naomi was round earlier to talk to Nathan and upon hearing this Viv gets up and leaves. Viv returns to his place and sees his medication on the counter. He pours them all out into his hand and dumps them in the bin. Curtis gives Fletch his backing and this makes the rest of the team accept Barker's decision of appointing him as Assistant manager. Out in the training pitch, Nathan is looking better than ever and that is down to the work Viv has put in with him. As Viv looks on, he begins to regret all the hard work he put into the young lad and now sees his position as Number 1 in jeopardy. Jodie and Frank go to see a private doctor to get her first baby scan. This scan brings the two of them closer than ever and the future looks bright for all 3 of them. Everyone turns up at Studs to take Viv up on his free bar offer. Viv is glad they have all decided to come and even Lee manages to utter a few words to him. Fletch sees Jodie being flirty with Ryan and interrupts them to tell Jodie to stop making it look so obvious. He tells her he saw her bit on the side leaving from the bedroom window a few days ago and the guy told him he was having an affair. Jodie runs off now knowing Frank has been up to his old tricks again. Frank comes over to Fletch, looking for his wife. Fletch tells him she left and tells Frank what he saw a few days ago. Before he can finish, Frank races home. Jodie is upstairs and is glad when she sees her jewellery gone, making her think that it was just a burglar. She is about to tell Frank, but Frank interrupts her and confesses all to her. As everyone leaves the club, Nathan offers to stay behind and help Viv clear up. The two of them have a laugh and a joke then Viv suddenly snaps. He holds Nathan's head down and tells him not to think he can take his place in goal. Nathan says he's not trying to but Viv tells him to stop patronising him and tells him if he gets his place in goal, he'll kill him. A shaken Nathan runs for his life out of Studs and it looks as though Viv is out of control once again.moreless
