Fear And Loathing
AIRED:
After an embarrassing 3-0 home defeat to Brighton leaves Harchester in 8th place and struggling to get into the play-offs with 5 games left to play. Viv blames poor performances by Stone and Sully and tells them straight that they are dropped for the next game against Wigan. Things don't go much better for Viv when he discovers that Caskey has been drinking and accuses him of having a problem. Carl denies it and storms out, but there is one piece of good news for the Harchester manager - Ryan's fit and can't wait to get back out on the pitch, starting against Wigan. Viv goes up to his office to find Naomi waiting there for him. She tells him she wants to do some work with Ryan to make sure he is in the right state of mind to be back playing and Viv agrees. Lee arrives to offer Viv a ride home and Viv shares his problem with Caskey with Lee. Lee inadvertently treads on Viv's toes, making a point about him seeing people do worse things after their wives leave them. Lee immediately apologises but it makes Viv see that if he can get Carl and Nicole back together then everything will be alright. Carl arrives home to his daughter Savannah and immediately hit's the bottle, despite her pleas. She pleads with him to stop, saying that this is his big chance and that he can really make it this time and doesn't want him to blow it. The phone rings and Savannah answers to find Viv wanting a word with Carl. She passes the phone over and Viv tells Carl that he wants to have a meeting with him later that night. Naomi arrives at Ryan's and tells her she wants to make sure he is mentally fit to play again. She wants Ryan to watch some videos of tackles to make sure Ryan doesn't fear contact on the pitch again. He says he doesn't need any help and is more interested in trying it on with her. As Ryan watches one of the tackles, he freaks out and orders her out. Carl arrives at an empty Studs to find Viv alone. He begins to apologise to Viv when he hears Nicole's voice from the top of the stairs. Viv heads up and locks them both in, saying that they need to work things out and he's not letting them out until they sort it out. Nicole tries to talk but Carl runs off to the toilets and locks himself in there. He spots a window open and escapes just when Nicole is pouring her heart out to him, but there is nobody there to hear her words. Viv arrives back and breaks down the bathroom door to find Carl long gone. The next day at training, Caskey is a no-show and Viv orders Gina to find him. With Ryan back and 100%, Viv tells Frank to stop going easy on him, as Wigan won't tomorrow in their make or break game. The tackles are flying in but Ryan is pulling out of every one of them. He has eventually had enough and storms off the pitch, preferring to hit the gym for his training session. Viv and Naomi find him and tell him to stop running away, but there words are falling on deaf ears. Savannah returns home to find her dad passed out on the sofa. She goes to the club and storms into Viv's office screaming at him, telling him he went to the meeting with him last night in good spirits but now Viv has just made him worse. She runs out of the club crying and bumps into Ryan. Not wanting to leave a damsel in distress, Ryan offers her a lift somewhere and they head off to the grange for a coffee. The two of them get talking and immediately hit it off, Ryan still oblivious to the fact that she is his team mate's 16 year old daughter. He tells her his concerns about returning to the pitch, saying he is scared it may happen again. Savannah tells him that he is right to be scared as every tackle coming in will feel like the end but if Ryan gives up without trying - it will still be the end. Viv arrives at Caskey's place and apologises for trying to get him and Nicole back together as it wasn't his place to do so. He tells him that he should be angry that the man that took his wife, Don Barker, is now taking his career as well. West Ham are sitting 3 points above Harchester and Viv tells him that Don is laughing at him and tells him the only way to beat him is by performing out on the pitch and it seems like Viv's psychology tactics have worked as Carl is raring to go. After a meal, Ryan offers to drop Savannah off somewhere but she tells him she wants to go home, with him. The two of them arrive at Ryan's and they head off to his room. Nicole calls Carl's phone and tells him that she and Savannah had arranged to meet up before but she didn't show up. Carl has no idea where his daughter is and panics. He invites Nicole in and the two of them work together to try and find Savannah, when all the while she is tucked up next to Ryan in bed. Savannah picks up her phone to find a list of missed calls and tells Ryan she must go. He walks her out of the house and Carl looks out to find his daughter and Ryan in each others arms. He flips out and kicks out at Ryan knocking him down, leaving Ryan in agony once again. Curtis helps him into the house and offers to call the club to send the doctor over. Ryan says there is no need as he is fine. He says he feels fine; he is no longer scared of contact with his leg. Carl is furious at Savannah and doesn't dare to think what she and Ryan where up to. Savannah is in her room, packing her stuff having had enough of her Fathers behaviour. Nicole offers to give her a lift to her mums to stay for a while. As they head out, Carl tries to apologies, to both of them but Savannah walks out and Nicole tells him she will take Savannah to the match the next day and they can talk then. In the players lounge just before the game, Ryan walks in and Viv tears a strip off him for playing around with one of his team mate's daughters. Ryan pleads his innocence saying that he never knew but Viv tells him he can't play him. Ryan begs him, saying that he isn't scared anymore and he can do a job out on the pitch. Viv tells him to go see Carl and patch things up with him. He goes out to the stands and apologises to Carl. At first his apologies are rejected but after he tells Carl about Savannah the one who helped him get back in the right frame of mind and how much he cares for her. He also tells him that it's better that she sees someone like him as he will always know where she is and Ryan will keep her safe and Carl accepts. Viv noises the lads up for this crucial game against Wigan and Ryan and Carl agree to work together. Ryan receives a warm welcome back from the Harchester fans and Harchester hit Wigan straight from the off and Caskey sends a ball forward to Naysmith who crosses for Presley to make it 1-0 as Harchester get back on track in their quest for promotion to the Premiership.moreless
