Mind Games
AIRED:
In his first game in charge, Fletch leads Harchester to another win boosting them to 4th in the Championship. During an interview he makes it very clear that he wants to stick around as manager and publicly tells Don to take his time to recover. Don left Fletch in charge in order to see him screw up and now that he sees that his position as manager may be in threat, Don gets on the next flight back to Harchester. Up in the players lounge, Dean makes an entrance saying he couldn't stay in Hospital any longer and that he missed the place. He takes Fletch aside and tells him what a good job he is doing as manager. Fletch knows, but doesn't want to go back to playing once Don gets back. Dean tells him he might not have to. Dean tells Fletch that he wants Don out and that he is the reason behind him being in Hospital. Harchester have a game against promotion rivals Sheffield Utd coming up and Dean says he is inviting Eli down to watch the game and if Fletch impresses him, Dean is confident he can sack Don on grounds of ill health. Don returns home and finds Jodie in his arms crying her heart out. He takes her inside to find out what is wrong and Jodie tells him all about Frank. Jodie also shows him the scan of the baby and instead of flying off the handle, Don looks pleased that he is going to be a Granddad. After a late after-game party at Studs, Viv offers to drive some of the player's home whilst the rest are waiting on Taxi's. He stands up in front of everybody and tells them how frightened he was in facing the lads after what he did when he was not well. He makes a heart felt apology and the lads accept him as one of the team again. He tells Curtis, Ryan, Lee and Nathan that he will drive them home. After dropping the others off, he and Nathan have a wild ride back to his that nearly frightens the life out of the young lad. Before he lets Nathan leave he gives him a pre-typed letter asking for a transfer and tells Nathan that all it needs is his signature. Nathan refuses but Viv fly's off the handle again and tells him to hand the letter to Dean in the morning. Curtis sees Don outside and goes over to talk to him. Don invites him in and tells Curtis that the only reason he was in Spain for a few days was so Dean could give Fletch a clear run at the manager's job. He makes Curtis believe that Fletch is not ready to be manager full-time and sends him on his way to think about it. The next day, Fletch is being interviewed and when the interviewers turn to Ryan and Curtis to ask their opinions on Fletch's reign as manager, Curtis looks down his nose and gives no comment. Curtis makes the others realise that Fletch is after the job full time and they are not happy about it to say the least. In training it's first team Vs reserves and Viv is offered to play in goal for the reserves. He plays brilliantly which is more than can be said for first team keeper, Nathan. After the game, Fletch makes a joke about Viv being on medication but Viv tells him and the rest of the lads that he is off the medication and that Naomi has declared him fine. The lads are happy for him, except Nathan that is. Nathan goes to see Dean, but sees Naomi in her office and goes to talk to her. He is just about to tell her about what Viv has been doing to him until Viv arrives and scares the kid off. Fletch goes to see Dean who tells him that Eli is definitely coming to the Sheffield Utd game and not to let him down as he has been singing his praises to Eli all week. Determined to get a result in his next game in charge, Fletch gets Gina to tell the lads to stay behind for extra training, which doesn't go down well with the lads. Meanwhile Nathan goes to see some friends and tells them all about Viv and they tell him that next thing he tries anything he should call them. Out on the training pitch Lee receives an injury to his ankle. Fletch practically accuses Lee of faking the injury and the rest of the team turn on Fletch. Nathan returns home to find Viv in his house talking to his mum. After telling him to leave, Nathan calls his mates and they promise to sort Viv out. They pull up outside Studs armed with baseball bats. They tell Nathan to wait outside as they head in. Viv tries to take them on but Nathan's mates gain the upper hand. Outside some of the other lads arrive to head into Studs but Nathan tells them not to go in there. When they hear noise down at the bar, they all rush in just in time to save Viv from an injury. Nathan's mates make a run for it but leave Nathan behind. The lads figure out that they were mates of Nathan's and Nathan finally tells them about Viv trying to force him out the club but they won't have any of it and take Viv's side. It's the day of the Sheffield Utd game and Fletch is on edge. Eli will be arriving any minute for his make or break game and to make matters worse, Viv arrives to hand in a transfer request. Viv goes to the players lounge to announce that he is leaving. The lads react badly to the news and say if anyone should leave it is Nathan. As Dean and Fletch sit down to dinner with Eli, Don makes a sudden entrance and joins them much to Dean and Fletch's annoyance. Fletch makes his way to the dressing room to give his team talk, and get changed as he now has to play himself due to Lee's injury. He also puts Viv on the bench, hoping it will change his mind about leaving. The teams take to the pitch and Don, Dean and Eli take to the stands to watch on. Sheffield have Harchester on the back foot and take the lead. Fletch loses it and receives two bookings in a short space of time and gets himself sent off and Harchester enter half time a goal down and a man down. Don sees this as an opportunity to step in as the saviour. He makes his way to the changing room and tells Fletch to take a back seat. He tells the team to relax and as his first act he tells Nathan that he has had a great run in the team but he is going to bring Viv on for the second half. He restores confidence in the team and tells them to go out there and give everything in the second half. As you would expect, everything goes according to plan for Don and Harchester dominate the second half and win the game 2-1. After the game, Eli makes a few toasts and welcomes Don back as the man to lead Harchester back in the Premiership. Viv spots Nathan sneaking off and confronts him in the bathroom. He scares the hell out of Nathan by beating HIMSELF up, telling Nathan that in a fight he will always go further. He tells him that they need a new keeper at Leeds and tells him to be quick. Fletch is in the manager's office drowning his sorrows. Dean enters and Fletch asks how Don can get one over on him every single time. Fletch says enough is enough and they were wrong to play fair and the two of them declare war on Don Barker.moreless
