Show The Don Respect
AIRED:
Dean shows Barker the tape of him bribing Nicole into bed and tells him to leave the club quietly. As Dean sends him on his way he signals Fletch out of his office in order to celebrate, saying if he had known it was going to be that easy – he would have done it months ago. Fletch spares no time in putting his name forward for the vacant managers position but Dean tells him to take it one step at a time. Meanwhile Carl Caskey is packing his things ready for his first day of training as a Harchester player. Dean makes a press statement saying that Don has resigned of his position as manager due to poor health. Don arrives to find the press grilling him over his recent resignation. Don calls their bluff and tells them there has been a big misunderstanding and that he is not going anywhere. The rest of the lads are upset that they have to find out Don's resignation through a news report but Dean tells them its for the best. Curtis brings up the situation of who's going to step in to be manager and once again Fletch throws his name into the hat, but to the players, Fletch is a non-runner after what happened last time. Just then Don walks in to tell them he is not going anywhere and sends them out on the pitch for training. Dean and Fletch pull him aside and tell them to get his stuff and leave, bribing him with the tape that they have. Don doesn't see that as anyway to get rid of him and even gets Caskey on the phone for Fletch to tell him what his missus has been up to, but Fletch can't do it and once again Don is let off scot free. Nicole is upstairs in Dean's office, furious that Don is still in charge. Dean still suggests showing the tape to the press but Nicole can't risk Carl seeing it. Once again, Dean vows to get Barker out of Harchester if it's the last thing he does. Out on the training pitch, Don sends Caskey to train with the reserves, saying that he doesn't think he is ready for a full 90mins at Championship level, when really he is making Caskey pay for what Nicole did to him. Enough is enough for Dean as he marches onto the training pitch and sacks Don; still claiming it is because of his health. Don takes it like a man and leaves Dean looking like the bad guy. Curtis storms into Dean's office wanting to know exactly why Don has been sacked. Dean tells his friend Curtis that he can't tell him but there have been things going on behind their backs that would shock them. Curtis pleads with Dean to tell him but Dean stands firm. Curtis presents the lads with T-Shirts to show they are against the sacking of Don, complete with the logo "Show the Don Respect". The lads parade in front of the press with Curtis pleading with the club to re-instate him or at least tell them why he has been let go. Their protest spills over to the fans who are also protesting the sacking of the man who has lead them to the Quarter-Final's of the Champions League. This leads to Eli arriving at the club demanding to know what has been going on. Dean shows Eli the tape. Eli is on Don's side, saying that everything Nicole did, she did voluntarily. He tells Dean that he has gambled millions on Harchester getting back to the Premiership and Don is the man to lead them there. Dean comes out of the boardroom to face Fletch to tell him that Barker is staying but he has been sacked. Eli makes another press-statement re-instating Don as manager and announcing Dean's leave. The Caskey's see the report on Don back as manager. Nicole receives a call from Don who is in his car outside their home and tells her to come and see him. When she gets out there Don tells her that every Friday night, before a match, he expects her to come and see him and in return, he will play Carl. As Dean prepares to leave Harchester for Liverpool, Curtis persuades him to stay at his, at least until Harchester's Champions League tie with Arsenal and Dean agrees. Gina and Nicole meet up at the Grange and Gina is adamant that she tell Carl about what has been going on and that she can't carry on like this. Gina and Fletch arrive at the club and Gina goes straight into Barkers office to announce her resignation as Team Co-ordinator, saying she can't work for him knowing what he has done. Out on the training pitch, most of the lads are happy to see him back, with the exception of Frank and Fletch. Don tells the lads that Fletch no longer wants him to be manager and it comes as no surprise to Fletch to find himself out of Don's first team plans and left rotting in the reserves. Back at Curtis and Ryan's, Dean comes across some old tapes, which include footage of him fighting for Harchester's survival last year and this is enough for Dean to have one last crack at getting rid of Barker. He meets up with Fletch to tell him that he wants to show the tape to the rest of the lads, excluding Carl, knowing that if they see it they won't want to play for a man who goes after the player's partners. Gina is against the idea, knowing that a squad of football players have no chance in keeping a secret like that. Caskey is back in Don's good books, after the deal he has struck with his wife, and announces him in the squad to play Ipswich the following day. Carl returns home to tell Nicole, only to find the bailiffs repossessing the house. Fletch was about to show Caskey the tape but how can he do it now? As a result, Carl shows up late for the team meeting at the Grange and Barker tells him to stay away from Fletch and not to be late ever again. Don waits patiently in his room for Nicole to arrive and low and behold - she does. As the two of them get down to business, Carl is tossing and turning, worried that he has upset Don and now he won't play him tomorrow. He gets up and goes and knocks on his room door. Don, thinking it is room service he ordered for he and Nicole, opens the door without thinking and is shocked to see Carl standing there and Nicole, even more so. Carl runs off back to his room and Nicole pleads with him to forgive her, but Carl is furious that she felt she had to sleep with the manager in order for him to be picked for each game. Lee knocks on Fletch's door to tell him about a row with Carl and Nicole and Fletch finds Carl kicking Barker's door down. He breaks in and lays into Don and despite pleas from Don, Fletch stands back and looks on with a smile on his face. As the police arrest Carl, the rest of the lads suspect Don had been having an affair with Nicole. Match day arrives and the lads get fired up for their clash with Ipswich. Don walks in and tells them that he won't be playing Caskey. Meanwhile Fletch is at the police station as Carl gets released. Fletch finally shows Carl the tape to prove what Barker was doing to Nicole. Fletch and Dean now know it is time to show the rest of the lads the tape and march into the dressing room minutes before kick-off. They play the tape in front of a shocked dressing room. Disgusted by his behaviour the lads make it pretty clear that they no longer want Barker around and tell him to leave. Curtis tells the lads to forget about what just happened and go out on the pitch and do it for the fans. As the team head out of the dressing room, they go left out onto the pitch and Don heads right – out of the club. Before he goes, Don looks at the badge, kisses it and leaves knowing there is no way back.moreless
