EDIT
The Sting
AIRED:
Fletch and Dean come up with another plan to finally get rid of Don. They are going to use dodgy agent Joel Brooks to bribe Don over the transfer, and the player? One of Fletch's old mates from the Harchester youth team, Carl Caskey. Fletch is not too happy using one of his mates as bait but he so desperately wants rid of barker that his head rules over his heart. Fletch arrives at his old friends house who is a little uneasy at opening the door, fearing it could be Bailiffs, which suggest the Caskey's are in financial trouble. When Fletch offers Carl a chance to join Harchester, he sees this as a way to get out of his money troubles and wife, Nicole and daughter Savannah are overjoyed. With phase 1 completed of the plan, Joel and Dean get ready to face Barker to see if he will go for it. Barker is not impressed by their transfer target, considering Caskey hasn't played for 2 years due to a career threatening injury whilst at Charlton but gives in and agrees to give him a week to prove himself. The next day, Carl arrives for his first day of training and Fletch tells him to keep quiet about it being his idea to sign him, seeing as he isn't Barker's favourite person at the moment. Joel introduces Carl to Don who looks to be more interested in the player's wife rather than him. Out on the training pitch, Caskey shows off all his skills but Don wants to see him in action and plays a practice game, putting Caskey in the reserves. Worried by his knee, Caskey pulls out of every challenge and Don is not impressed and tells Dean that he is a lost cause. Joel comes to see Don about sealing the deal for Caskey, but once again Don is not interested. That is until Joel lies and tells him that the Caskey's are willing to slip Don some of his signing on fee - then Don is all ears. With Barker taken the bait, Joel collects the money from Dean and Fletch along with a hidden camera to catch Don's every word. Don meets Nicole, Caskey's wife, at the grange for a drink. When Don drops the matter of giving him half the signing on fee as part of the deal into the conversation, he sees that Nicole knows nothing about this and begins to have his suspicions. His suspicions are confirmed when Nicole reveals that signing Caskey was all Fletch's idea. Don wants to know just hoiw much Nicole wants to help her husband get a contract and makes a move on her, to which Nicole runs off in disgust. Joel catches up with Don and leads him up to his room with the briefcase full of money. Don suddenly catches on to what has been going on and tells Joel to turn off his camera. Don can't understand why Joel would try this to Don and Joel says he had to if he ever wanted Dean to allow him to do a deal with Harchester again. Don turns the tables and gets Joel on his side and the two of them agree to half the money and get one over on Fletch and Dean. Joel returns to Dean and Fletch's room pretending that the deal has been done. However, when nothing appears on the tape, Dean and Fletch believe that they have been double crossed, leaving Joel pretty pleased with himself. The next day at training, Caskey looks like a different player altogether, getting in amongst the tackles and looking dangerous in midfield. When Caskey comes over for Don to assess his performance, Don reveals that he won't be signing him. Caskey pleads with him to let him play in the reserves game but Don says there is no point. When the Bailiffs arrive while Carl and Nicole are out, Savannah lets them in, thinking they are people from the club. Before she knows it, they are taking everything from the house and when Carl and Nicole return home, there is nothing they can do but to console their daughter. With nothing left, Nicole knows Carl must get the contract with Harchester and arranges to meet up with Don again. This pleases Don and tells her to tell her husband that he can play in the reserve game later and then tells her to come to his room, and to wear something nice. In the reserves changing room, Caskey makes his entrance and vows to put in a performance worthy of signing for Harchester. Out on the pitch, Caskey scores two and back at the grange, Don scores with his wife. Disgusted by her actions, Nicole returns home to and heads straight for the shower. When she comes out she finds Carl telling her that he played a blinder and there is no way Don can turn him away now. Little does he know, it's because of what Nicole did that will get him the contract and not what Carl did out on the pitch. The next day Carl and Nicole arrive for him to sign his contract. Don reveals he will be on a rolling contract on a pay-as-you-play deal, meaning he will only get paid when he is picked for the team. This suggests to Nicole that she will have to do what she did the other night every time for Don to include Carl in the team and storms out. Gina finds her in the toilets and Nicole tells her everything that Barker has done to her. Disgusted by his actions, Gina confronts Don but does not let on that she knows. Instead she tells Fletch Irate at what Don did to Nicole, they decide to play dirty once again in order to finish Barker once and for all. When Gina meets up with Nicole to tell her to go back to see Don and get him to say that he is only playing Caskey so long as she sleeps with him. With another hidden camera concealed within her dress she goes to see Barker and gets him to say what she wants him to say. She returns to Dean and Fletch's room and he plays the tape, which shows Barker telling Nicole that if she walks out on him, Carl Caskey will never play for Harchester. Dean and Fletch now have concrete evidence to finally get rid of Don Barker.moreless
