    • The original pilot was filmed in June of 2006 in hopes of getting picked up by FOX in time for a spring 2007 air date. However, the show was deemed too expensive to produce and was initially canceled. However, in October of 2006 FOX executives asked Tim Minear and Ben Queen to revamp the show with a mostly new cast. Minear and Queen re-wrote the pilot to more clearly establish why each character entered the race. FOX later greenlit a 12 episode order for the series, 13 including the pilot.

    • The original pilot was shot in June of 2006 because Tim Minear wanted to wait for Director Greg Yaitanes to become available after he finished shooting another FOX pilot "Southern Comfort." Ironically, "Southern Comfort" was not picked up by FOX.
