"Drive" is a well-driven series about people who are on a spped race from sea to shinning sea. Like the line goes in "The Cannonball Run." Well the show is like "The Cannonball Run" except it's more serious than you think. I like the cars going up the highway. it's better than the characters talking. The probaby too much talk in the show and I would like it more action and less talk. I'm also glad that one of the characters leave her baby behind. It's too much of a burden for a show to handle. Remember, Speed Kills! this show is no exception.
This season has brought some excellent new shows, such as Heroes, Shark and Brothers & Sisters. On the evidence of its pilot episode, add Drive to that list. I just hope that Fox keep faith in it as this is a show which already has raised so many questions and seems to have endless possibilities.
The journey on this show is clearly going to be a major part of finding out what is going on, who is behind it all and why those involved were chosen. Taking those three elements, you can see parallels with Lost, although that is not a bad thing. I am already hooked on this show and looking forward to the exploration of the charaters and their situations, not forgetting the race itself and what is going to take place in order that the "contestants" survive to the next leg.
When you watch as much TV as I do you obviously develop favourites but it is always good to pick up a new show or format which keeps your interest going.
Who doesn't love movies like Cannoball Run and RatRace? Ok, so not everybody, but I do. A tv series that is entirely one large race, but run in legs, kind of like Amazing Race? Sign me up! I like some of the actors from the premiere, specifically the firefly owner and the nerdy dad, the rest of them were new to me, and that can be a really good thing. Some fun stuff in this premiere, but not enough to really hook a person. Some are forced to race, others appear to be in it for fun. Being a racing guy, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of fantastic driving, but luckily the characters and their secrets, or pasts were enough to bring me in for the next episode.
Well, they really pulled off the first episode. I thought it was going to be crap, but it turned out well. The introduction of the characters was mainly done through flashbacks, which added more to the characters, and made the show move along. Since they had to introduce all of the aspects and all of the characters they couldn't do too much with the overall stuff, but it was good. All of the racers are called to a meeting place and told the rules and are sent off to a location, a light house, and Tully meets a girl and a man trying to kill her. The lady with the baby, sorry I forgot her name, was last and was given a penatly. Overall, great start to a, hopefully, great season.
I love it and with the possible exception of Heroes this is my pick of the new shows for 2007. Combining elements of Prison Break, the Amazing Race and Smith there are so many different things happening and with the plot unfolding around you - there is a sense of being part of the action. If they can maintain this pace (excuse the pun) then it is the show I will be looking forward to each week.
The challenge of course will be how they can handle a second season a la prison break.
This was indeed a great start to this show. I, like many other people at first, had their doubts about this show I mean how long can it last for? Now that I have seen it I believe that it will last for a long time. All the characters were great but I think my favorite is Alex Tully, he has shown that he is series about getting his wife back and he can be funny also. The show focuses on a bunch of different people competing in the race that is also interesting but you can't have to many characters in a show. Later...
With twelve racers and two men who are on the inside to introduce I think that the writers did a decent job as far as character devolopment goes. The first several episodes of a show revolves around nothing but character devolopment. I think that Alex and Wiles have a good on screen connection and I think I am going to like them working together on this race. I thought that the Salazar brothers got a little too much on screen time for there backstory, but it was still interesting to see a new member join the race that isnt really even supposed to be on it. I think that Wendy's character is also a little out of place, she seems to be racing away from something whereas everyone else is racing for someone or something. It will be interesting to see how her character devolops. The father / daughter, random couple, and three girls didnt have much to do in this episode, but they really don't have time to introduce everyone in a one hour episode. We'll have to wait and see what the second half of the finale has in store. Overall, I thought it was a very solid first episode.
This had me on the edge of my seat. Great diversity of characters; mysterious, naughty, nice, ghetto, preppy..... I enjoy watching a show that is so unique in plot..... something that is hard to find these days. I enjoyed the character development, it was suspensful. I am looking forward to the next episode and finding out more about each character.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, the first minute started with Nathan Fillion being chased by the guy in the black car i thought hey could get used to this as i love car chase movies but then i thought surely they cannot have a full series of just car after car chasing each other, but then we started to get into the thriller aspect of things, okay you could say this show is a TV version of the movie Rat Race but without Mr Bean.
BUT there's more than meets the eye with all the participants and we’ve already touched on most if not all the racers have a deep dark secret from each other and the viewing public, the only people who know are the race organisers.
A great pilot and hopefully will keep us all on a who dun it edge of the seat adrenaline roller coaster.
Amazing Race plus the movie Rat Race equels Drive?
Love the premise of the show a bunch of people driving around a secret all knowing agency that follows them. Characters that develop and a few surprises to bad Amazing
OKay dont ask me to name anybody but the eccentic pregnanent gives her baby up to her mother I assume and goes on the race from her abusive husband. Shes very werid and its hard for me to like her. She gets in dead last and has to kill another commpetitor to be honest this kinda of turned me off from the show but in the end didint. Another main Character is a man who looks for his wife who is being held by the people who are running this illegal race, His partner who was never part of the game, was held 27 years ago as her parents tried to find her. I liked the twist but I know we have only had 2 hrs to get involved but I think the writers excuted wrong. ALso 2 brothers are also on the race its the prince and the puaper yet without the switch. Theres also a few minor characters yet there relationship dynamics arent really clear and they all drive me nuts except for the young girl, with the sick father. Overall the racing is cool the suspense is great and I really love the premise of the show and Ill be wacthing tonight.
Boy, am I changing my mind about this show. At first I thought it would be good, but I didn't realize just how good it was going to be. This is going to be an awesome show. I still don't think it will last, but I'll be along for the ride. No idea what to expect & like most FOX shows, expect the unexpected.
Can't wait until tonight for the next leg of the race.
ok so i was kind of iffy about this show when i first heard about it but i tuned in just to see what it was like...and it was definately worth it...it was pretty decent...it gives you several different characters with different backgrounds so there is at least one person you can relate to...and you also have the air of mystery with the people holding the race...and then theres adventure with each new check point and eliminations to look forward to...so i must say that i am definately going to tune in to the next episode...i just might be hooked.
Fox has a habit of making a single season idea stick around for a couple more (see 24 and Prison Break), but I'm not sure they'll be able to make Drive last one season, let along worry about how they'll make a second season work.
There are a couple interesting characters, the dying dad... the ex-con... and I'm in love with the crazy innocent mother chick, but honestly, there was little that kept me hangin' here. I might tune in next time because I'm a fan of Nathan Fillion and good old fashioned car chases, but unless this show gives me a little more... well, my tv plate is already a little full right now with shows that aren't blatant rip offs of reality shows (or 1963 clut movies)- even if they are done "Fox" style.
The show clearly has potential. It definitely took part of the LOST model by showing so many people entering the race. They can introduce a lot of one note characters for quick story line assistance. Nathan Fillion definitely makes the show worth watching. He commands the screen and definitely has the most interesting story-line. The housewife and the blonde have potential to be funny, but right now are just annoying. The father/daughter relationship is boring at best. The brothers are stereotypical. Perhaps the most annoying thing is that FOX airs commercials every 10 minutes. It makes it hard to build momentum in an action show when there is a cut in the action so often. Overall, I have a lot of hope for the series.
What looked to be a decent enough show, turns out to be off to a great start. And hopefully it will find an audience. As some are in it for the money, for fun, or forced to join. But they all are eyeing the $32M prize. From a man missing his wife, two opposite brothers, a mother with a baby, father & daughter, etc.
You can't really say that Drive is a deep TV show that is as mind provoking as for example Lost; but it is definitely just as entertaining.
Drive's conception is simple, yet very original: a big race throughout america, $32 million is the main prize, however, there is someone whose goal isn't the money, but rather his wife.
A mysterious organization hosts this race every now and then, for unknown reasons. They choose people randomly. Why? Good question. The mystery element is always welcome, let's just hope it won't be too over the top.
The pacing is great, and the show just feels so 'full'. Unfortunately, one thing the show failed to deliver: compelling characters - which is a very important factor in a serialized drama.
While Alex's character - portraied by the awesome Nathan Fillion is great - the rest is passable. No depth, no real ambitions. Of course, this can be changed as the plot progressed, and let's hope the writers will do that.
One more complaint, is that the pilot felt a little rushed: people didn't really ask questions, they didn't even try to find out the reason behind this: everybody seems to follow the rules of an unknown organization putting their own lifes on risk.
